Minutes April 10, 2006 President Robert Wingo called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm by welcoming everyone. A motion was made to accept the minutes, seconded and approved. Treasurers Report Rama Peri stated that this months report was not ready in time for tonights meeting due to the fact that so many last minute donations were made, one of which came from Sussex County Council for $500, in addition to the dance fundraiser and Cold Stone Creamery monies just being received. A final report will be available at the May meeting. In addition, a tentative budget will be presented at that meeting. This years total expenses will be available giving all members a better idea of what we will need for next year. Student Accounts Connie Holdridge reported that we still have 4 students who need to finish paying for their band trip. We did receive a refund from Classic Tours for one student who did drop out of the trip within the proper time frame. We did however have other students who did drop last minute and those amounts have yet to be calculated. Therefore, Connie stated as of this meeting we have approximately $12,000.00 total in Student Accounts, but again this is approximate. Directors Report Spring Trip Mr. Eli reported that many emails and general congratulations have been received concerning our bands performance and the students behavior. This was exactly what every band trip should be like, explained Mr. Eli. Mr. Eli explained that the question now was, what to do for next year? Several instruments sections will be lacking, most notably the trombones. In addition, students have been threatened that they will not be allowed to participate in spring sports according to their coaches if they travel during the practice season next year. An earlier trip will need to be looked into. Mr. Darrell Dukes will follow up on the idea of a band cruise to see if this is a viable option for next year. The March For The Arts will take place on the green in front of Legislature Hall, tomorrow, April 11th. County Band Students will leave the High School at 9:45 am, practice from 11am till Noon, and perform at approximately 1:30 and be back at school by 3pm. Spring Concerts Both the High School and freshman bands will perform on Sunday May 21st at 3pm. At present, because we have the performance time just for band, they are practicing 11 different pieces of music. The performance will be recorded on CD & DVD and can be purchased for a nominal fee. At present a formal Jazz Concert is not scheduled. On May 30th they will perform in the parking lot of the Rehoboth VFW, however, this is a school day so Mr. Eli will have to investigate the feasibility of this further. On May 31st they will perform at the Milton Park from 7pm till dark. Presidents Report Taxes - Robert Wingo reported that all tax information from 2001 on has been given to Ernie DiAngelus at H & R Block. Spring Trip Robert congratulated the parents, students and Director for a great trip, one that he was very proud to be a part of. Everyone had a great time. One positive item this year, was the students schedule, they were free to have more time to unwind and see and do things at a more comfortable pace. Robert also thanked Darrell and Heidi Dukes for transporting the Instrument truck all the way there and back. He also thanked the two 9th grade Choir members who came on the trip solely to carry the banner. They were Amy Barezewski and Kathryn Bitter. Cell Phones Ken Schleiffer submitted a check for $148.00 to Rama Peri for additional collections of cell phones and ink cartridges. Dance Report Alan Bales reported that money continues to be collected for the dance however to date $2,946.14 has been made. Alan thanked everyone for helping and everyone present gave Alan a round of applause for a job very well done. Connie also stated that it was so impressive to see so many helping with what ended up being a truly fun fundraiser. It truly became more of a community event. The food and desserts were wonderful and a big thanks to all who donated desserts. |
