Back to My Pumpkin Patch (2005)
Situated in central England, the University of Warwick lies amidst the lush greenery of Warwickshire and the industrial city of Coventry. With approximately 25% of its 15,000 students coming from abroad, there was much opportunity to discover and understand the mix of sub-cultures throughout campus life.... Cheese and Wine Parties, Malaysia Nights, The International Committee, Pub Crawls, Greek Parties...

Through fate's mysterious hand, I ended up living with my fellow Malaysian countrymen and some wonderful Hong Kong friends
(so much for the cross-cultural experience). My involvement in the Uni's Chinese CF was also the start of meaningful friendships, and improved Cantonese (Grandma was pleased, to say the least).

The one thing that featured strongly  during my time there and most definitely cannot be left out was TOP BANANA!! Those of you who know it will remember queuing up on Monday nights
(through rain and in freezing temperatures....clad in clubbing gear). OK, I'd have to admit that I wasn't part of the partying bunch (erm...), nevertheless, I can still remember the times when the group of us at Tocil 30 would look forward to Monday nights... especially when there would be a long week of lectures to "look forward to".

And so, I look back on those 3 exciting and, dare I say, life-changing years with fondness.

I visited Italy immediately after my final exams in May/ June 2000. Travelling through Europe is really something one must do as a student in the UK, no matter how tight a budget one is on. It's a MUST! Cheap hostels, sleeping in airports and trainstations, not bathing for a few days, surviving on dry french bread... things that I'll probably never do now that I have - as some of my friend's put it - been "sucked" into the working world, where luxury and comfort are primary considerations for a holiday... *sigh*

Anyways...

Italy is a beautiful, beautiful place. A must-see for all romantics and in fact, everyone who loves life and strives to find meaning to it. ...
maybe not, but it's definitely worthwhile going.

The 3 of us flew to Milan, where we embarked on an 8-day journey. We visited Padua, Venice and Rome, where 2 of the group remained to take in more of that historical city where Goethe wrote
"I now realise all the dreams of my youth". I then proceeded to  Florence, Pisa and passed through Cinque Terra, the 5 quaint little villages - Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore - that line Italy's west coast. The 8 days were hardly adequate, sufficient only to discover a taste of Italy's flavour.. Everything about it amazes me - history, culture, food, peoplel... I'll definitely re-visit that lovely country.
