Candle Care Tips

You'll find candles are easy to care for. Just a bit of attention will keep them in top condition and burning bright. These simple reminders will help you get the most enjoyment out of your candles.

Reminders for all candle types

Candles don't like to be alone. Don't ever leave one unattended!
Snuff out flames with a candle snuffer. This prevents wax from spraying and the wick will stay centered.
Always use proper receptacles - candles will burn better, cleaner and neater.
Keep your candles in top condition - rub gently with fine mesh stockings to heighten gloss and remove scratches.
To prevent fading, keep candles out of direct sunlight.
Store candles in a cool, dark, dry place.

Tealights
Tealights measure 1 1/2" wide x 3/4" high.
Available in a choice of aluminum or transparent cups, and in a selection
of colors and fragrances (including unscented).
Use transparent cups for "open-type" display items such as a crystal
tealight holder.
Use aluminum cups for "closed-type" products such as a tealight house
or potpourri burner.
Tealights extinguish themselves when they burn out.
Burn for approximately 4 - 5 hours.

                                        Votives

Votives measure 1 1/2" wide x 2" high.
Available in over 30 fragrances and colors.
Keep wicks trimmed to 1/4" for proper and complete burning.
Keep burning candles away from drafts and air conditioning units.
Votives from Colonial Candle of Cape Cod consume completely when
                                                  burned in a proper container.
Center wicks before each lighting. An uncentered wick can crack a
                                                  glass holder.
                                                  Burn for approximately 8 - 10 hours.

Dinner Candles
Keep wicks trimmed to 1/4" for proper burning.
Available in 6, 8, 10 and 14 inch heights.
A variety of styles and colors to match your decor.
Keep burning candles away from drafts.
Always burn unscented candles when dining.
(You want only the aroma of your good food.)
Approximately 45 minutes of burning time for every inch of the candle.
Keep your dinner candles beautiful - rub them with a fine mesh stocking.

                                       Pillar Candles

Most pillars are available in 3" wide by 5", 7" or 9" tall, or 4" wide x 9" tall.
Pillar candles burn 1 hour for every inch of width. For example, if a pillar
is 3" wide, burn it for a minimum of 3 hours.
When a pillar candle burns for many hours, a "puddle" of wax can form                                                      as the wick gets "long and lazy." You can prevent this by keeping the                                                        wick trimmed to 1/4".
The first time you light a pillar candle, burn for only 5 - 10 minutes and                                                      extinguish the flame.
For the next 4 - 5 lightings, gradually increase the burning times until
                                                 the belltop is gone.
Once your candle has a flat surface, burn approximately 1 hour per inch
for each inch of the candle's diameter.
Maintain the flat surface by gently "hugging" the soft wax around the well.
Before hugging, be sure that wax around the outer edge is warm to
                                                 the touch.

3-Wicks
A 3-Wick candle weighs about 8 pounds and measures 6" x 8".
Fourteen color and fragrance combinations available.
Never trim the wicks of your 3-Wick candle!
Burn your 3-Wicks at least 5-6 hours at each lighting.
Keep all three wicks pointed toward the center.
Gently "hug" the soft wax around the well to maintain a flat surface.

                        Ball Candles

Ball candles measure approximately 3" wide x 4" high.
Available in honeydew, balsam pine and raspberry fragrances.
Keep wicks trimmed to 1/4" before each lighting.
Approximately 20 to 25 hours of candlelight from one ball candle.
Ball candles extinguish themselves when they reach 1/2" from the bottom.
