Captains Abstract
We lost the toss and were sent into bat on a pitch that looked very green and
helpful to the bowlers. This proved true, and with the team missing many key
players the batting line-up failed to make any impression on the scorecard, with
only two batsman making double figures: Chris White (15) and Andrew Kemp (17).
The side being dismissed for the modest total of 71.
Our bowling started well with Chris White (2-30) claiming two early scalps to
have the Everton side struggling at 2-24. However we failed to capitalise on the
chances given to us by a rather unconvincing Everton batting line-up and allowed
their opener to get away. Kris Wilson (1-23) was the only other bowler to take
a wicket in the Everton total of 3-134 declaired.
Sending us in with three overs left in the day, our openers managed to see it out.
Chermside 0-16 in there second innings requiring another 48 to make Everton bat
again.
We resumed the second day with the intention of posting a defendable lead. Things
looked positive early with Andrew Bennett (18) and Andrew Kemp (46) posting an
opening partnership of 42. Robert Hussey (22) then combined with Andrew Kemp for
a 49 run partnership. However with the exception of Sam Martin (18) the rest of
the line up failed to shine and we were dismissed for 140 with a lead of 78.
Still with hopes of winning the match we bowled aggresively and looked right in
the game until the very end. Simon Jones (1-26) bowled well without much success,
whilst Chris White (4-34) bowled an aggressive 11 over spell. In the end however
we were unable to clean up the tail and Everton claimed the match with 2 overs
left in the days play.
