Captains Abstract
The second game of the season saw the state of play reduced to only 28 overs
per side after Everton failed to hav sufficient numbers at the scheduled
commencment of play. After loosing the toss we were sent into the field.
Andrew Kemp (1-46) threatened early claiming the fist scal with the score on 9. But
some subdued batting saw the score slowly ticking over for Everton without the
loss of wickets before Nick Marjason (3-33) claimed three quick wickets, with help
from some super slips fielding by Hugh Wilson, to have Everton 4-69 just after
drinks. However some big hitting after drinks allowed Everton to post a strong total
of 156, with only Kris Wilson (2-22) being the other stand out of the bowlers.
Our innings started shaky with some disciplined bowling from the Everton side and
Peter Shaw falling for only seven. A partnerships of 30 between Simon Jones (24) and
Andrew Bennett (13), and 47 between Anderw Bennett and Chris White (30), saw us
in a winnable position. However, we were unable to capitalise and in the end fell
17 runs short.
