Captains Abstract
This week has witnessed the best performance by our team in a match, with all the pieces of the
puzzle finally coming together as I believed they could.
We lost the toss and were sent into the field. On a day that saw temperatures get above 34
degrees, the side showed great character and effort to dismiss the QUT batsman for only 98, with
Bill getting his first ever wicket which turned out in the end to be a haul of 3. Andrew Kemp
showed his determination with an 7 over opening spell. All the bowlers bowled well, and were
supported fantastically by the fielders.
The batting also got off to a positive start with openers Peter Shaw and myself posting a 70 run
oppening partnership before I departed for 31. Seb and Pete then saw us through to first innings
points and the day, finishing off 1-111 at the close. The team ended up all out for 157 with Drew
Corby making a quick fire 25 of only 9 balls.
We then embarked on the challenge of bowling out the QUT side for a second time. We accomplished
this, bowling them out for 65. Shaun McCoy taking 4-17 and Jon Lomas taking 3-12.
Requiring 7 to win I hit two fours to seal the game, Sambo unlucky to score the winning runs, ending
up almost getting himself stumped.
This game showed a steady and very good performance by the side, everyone showing great concentration
and effort in the field considering the heat. Congratulations boys.
