Captains Abstract
The second fixture of the season began strongly. I won the toss and elected to bad on a
'gabba grass' pitch. Things started well with Rob dispatching the Albany Creek opener
to the boundry after he tried to get fancy with a couple of bouncers. I on the other hand
(having reluctantly opened for Pete, who was running late) was struggling, with a distinct
lack of timing and confidence in my game. We clawed our way to 39 before the first wicket
fell, Rob getting a good ball which crept through his defence. Pete came in next and got
straight to work, with some great shots and timing, until the Albany Creek leg-spinner
got through Pete's usually rock tight defence. I was the next to go after playing on when
I had clawed my way to within sight of another 50. The well discplined bowling attack of
Albany Creek then exposed the cracks in our line up, although Hugh and Sam tried there best
to fight back, Hugh unlucky to be stumped when he was looking good (8), and Sam being
dismissed to a ball which barely grazed the left bail (15).
With a total of only 146, we embarked on trying for an early break through, although without
frontline openers (Kempy and Shaun) our attack proved twarted with Albany Creek advancing to
a first innings victory in only 16 overs.
The team struggled on the second day failing to make any in roads into the slaughter of runs
comming from the Albany Creek batsman. In the end Andrew Kemp, playing as a sub for Sebastian
was the only bowler to snare any wickets taking 3. Albany Creek declared at drinks 3-329.
The less said about the Chermside batting the better!!!!!. All out 26. Victory to Albany Creek
outright.
