Captains Abstract
The past Saturday marked the beginnig of the new season, seeing us take on the Everton Comets.
The oppsition won the toss and elected to bat, this appeared to prove costly when they lost one of their
openers in the second over to Shaun McCoy(3-51) and then another wicket 20 runs later to Andrew
Kemp(3-34). The next period saw some tight bowling from Robert Hussey(1-30), Chris White(1-33) and
Kris Wilson(1-39). However in the middle period of the day we struggled to take wickets and allowed two
of the Everton batsman to get on top(Byrne 88 & Fix 58*). The Everton innings was cleaned up by good
spells by Kemp and McCoy who took the last four wickets.
With only an hour left in the days play, we went in looking only to survive. This looked difficult when we lost
Calcutt with the score on only 7, and then Hussey three runs later. But the team steadied with Kris
Wilson (8*) and Chris White(15*) seeing the day out to stumps. Chermside 2-36 chasing Eveton 218.
Resuming the day at 2-36, we lost a wicket early with K. Wilson not adding to his overnight score of 8.
H. Wilson followed soon after when he was caught for only 3. Drew Corby and Chris White then steadied
the innings, Corby posting a quick fire 39 before being caught. With White amassing a hard fought half
century (50) he and Martin moved towards the drinks break, before White was bowled two balls from the break.
The tail then wagged with all batsman managing to contribute. In the end the team fell short by only 10 runs,
it was out first total ever greater 200.
We then embarked on an attempt to claim outright victory and this looked a great possibility when Everton were
struggling at 5-26. This however was not to be and the match ended in a draw. Bowling stats of note were
S. McCoy with 5-40.
