Surprise and Disappointment
Why is his name missing on the Singapore's "Top 10 Most Popular Male Artiste" list?

人气一向不弱的汉玮,今年作品不断,却也惨遭滑铁卢,十大榜,果然是最难预测的。巧的是,汉玮和斌辉都是偶像剧【星梦情真】的男主角,这回真的是梦碎了。 |
Hanwei who has always been popular, and many shows unfortunately also suffered a big fall. The top 10 is indeed difficult to predict. Coincidentally, Hanwei and Ping Hui are also the male leads of idol drama of "Fantasy". This time their dreams are really broken |

Acceptance of Interview after Loss
Both Tay Ping Hui and Chen Hanwei lost. One stresses that he's not disappointed. the other expresses regret that he is unable to give the speech he prepared! In lat night's " Star Awards" list of "Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes" , Tay Ping Hui, considered popular in MCS and successor to "Ah Ge" and Chen Hanwei who has always been considered strong in likeability and popularity, were unexpectedly beaten by radio DJs Desmond Koh and Billy Wang. They became the surprising artistes who were kicked out... The other defeated artiste is Chen Hanwei. He was open to interview and said, "Disappointed? Ok la! Didn't feel that strongly. But I've actually prepared a "thank-you" speech to use on stage, so that I can say it when I go onstage. This time I don't have a chance to use it, I did feel regrettable. |

The list of winners in "Star Awards" is ridiculously puzzling
Tay Ping Hui, Terrance Cao and Chen Hanwei should get in but didn't get in. Christopher Lee, Mark Lee and Gurmit Singh shouldn't get in but weirdly got in! Also, how is it Xue Er and Ou Xuan won the awards? So what if Xue Er is a Singaporean! They won with just one show. Experienced artistes didn't get any awards. It's really very unfair." - ---Mr Wang |

Upsets
And who could be more upset than Fiona Xie, Tay Ping Hui, Chen "More Popular Across the Causeway" Hanwei et al. Does it mean that they are less popular than last year. We don't think so...
(it then speculates that these artistes' fans didn't phone hard enough this year)
Webmaster's Comments: It seems like the reporter could not believe the results either. And they could only give one reason.

The Hot unexpectedly
becomes Cold
The list of Top 10 most popular artistes is never disappointing every year, it always gives us the most pleasant surprises. Previously we had Christopher Li, Mark Li dropping out of the list. This year it is Chen Hanwei, Tay Ping Hui and Terence Cao. A big unexpeceted winner is Gurmit Singh who crosses over to Channel 8 from Channel 5. How is it Chen Hanwei who has higher exposure this year than last year could be out? Although he has three 9 pm drama serials but unfortunately the focus and the chance to show ability did not fall on him, so it didn't get audience's attention. It just like being busy for nothing. |
Webmaster's Comments:
It's sad enough that hardworking Hanwei who accepts humbly any role given to him (even supporting ones) is not recognised by the audience for his professionalism. Need you rub salt in by saying that he is busy for nothing? Is he to be blamed for taking on these roles when some artistes can refuse roles? Shouldn't MCS do some soul-searching for letting its "Ah Ges" lose reputation instead of gloating over its ability to create surprises? After all, this is not just one reason why Hanwei lost.

I feel that the Star Awards
"Top 10 Male Artistes" is really unfair to the male artistes
of the Drama Unit especially Chen Hanwei and Tay Ping Hui. They are very
hardworking. Hope that the audience don't neglect their diligence. If
the audience feels that Desmond Koh, Billy Wang or Gurmit Singh should
be in top 10. Then ask them to become the young lead actors in the drama
unit instead!

Excerpt of a letter from a surfer, J to the Editor
....Still on the same topic of the friendship
amongst the stars, nothing beats the everlasting friendship between Zoe Tay and
Chen Hanwei. It was really heart-warming to see our Caldecott Queen tearing in
bliss for her best pal when Hanwei nabbed the Most Popular Male Artiste
(Malaysia). 3 cheers for such display of friendship!!! There had been some
disappointment when it comes to the Top 10 Male/ Female Artistes, especially
when names like Chen Hanwei, Tay Ping Hui, Aileen Tan and Pan Lingling were not
announced. -J
