| I got to the MCAS New River maina early so that I could sail over to Gottschalk and see the many items out for sale. But, the nautical flea market didn't go over so well. No one put out any old boat gear for sale. Semed lack of interest in the early morning event may cause it to be cancelled in the future. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Skipper's Meeting | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The course was set, starting at marker 46 (with a VERY narrow line). We headed south into Farnel Bay, round marker 42 and via the shortest route to marker 2. After rounding 2, we were to proceed west to marker 47, round it, and finsh back at marker 46. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Jim's family came down from Ohio. The rode out to the course on "Legacy", with Earl graciously volunteering to act as the commitee boat. As we passed the commitee boat, a box of Jim's favorite pop tarts were thrown over to each competitor. The start went well, but as the boats rounded Hospital point, the wind shifted slightly. A couple boats chose to tack immediately. I continued south and plan for a tack when there was more room to maneuver. As usual, Crescendo and Different Drummer sprang into the lead. They were the first to round 42 and start a run back to the north. Doc's boat, Resolve, was in close third. Scallywag, tacked twice, rounded the marker in fourth place, with Mental Floss close behind. On the run back to the north, I knew Scallywag only drafts 3 feet. So, I chose to cut close to Hospital Point on my way to marker 2. By doing so, we gained ground on the first three boats, but not enough. One of the boats behind me at that point, Girl Boat, didn't fare so well. She ran aground, tearing her jib as the extra force stretched her sails. I felt bad for her. And, that's it for the events of the race. We rounded markers 2 and 47 in the same order. Sadly, there were no pictures published of the race. If some are published, I'll either post them or create a link to them. |

| I cooked Italian sausage with saute'd onions and peppers...Yum! The third place finisher, Resolve, got a $25 gift certificate. Second place, Different Drummer, got $50 gift certificate. The trophy and $100 certificate were awarded to Mark and the crew of Crescendo. Good job Mark! |
