2d Battalion, 2d Marines NBC
Recent Events 2001
July 16-23: The Command Readiness Evaluation Program (CREP).
Basically, this is a Division level inspection to see if we're meeting training standards.  Areas checked include publications, equipment & logistics, training, and tactical performance in a simulated NBC environment.  Of course, We passed all areas.

Aug 6-17: NBCO attends Radiological Emergency Team Operations.
The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in New Mexico hosts several outstanding courses.  RETOPS was a blast!  It was educational and professionally rewarding.  Hey, where else can a guy go to train in real radioactive sites?  (Link on Photo to DTRA)

Aug 20- Sept 10: Combined Arms Exercise (CAX) 10.
The command wouldn't let us gas the battalion; so the fun was limited.  We went in order to support the S-3 in any way we could.  It was three weeks of live fire and the battalion got some of the best training in the Marine Corps.  Pfc Crossland's first real training deployment went well.

Sept 11: World Trade Center Bombing
A new era in terrorism is ushered in by the Al-Queda.  Planes were used as weapons with disregard for the lives of innocent passengers.  Anthrax is used as a weapon against our great nation.  We stand ready to protect our fellow Americans and eliminate terror around the globe.

Oct 1-5: TCA
T
Aboard the newly commissioned Iwo Jima (LHD-7), 2/2 NBC conducted Individual Survival Measure training while the battalion prepared for amphibious landings.  2/2 was the first Marine unit to conduct an exercise aboard the new Iwo. (Link on Photo to USS Iwo)

Oct 20- Nov 30: Quick Reaction Force

The Quick Rection Force (QRF) forced the NBC section to completely reorganize the way we deploy Marines and NBC equipment.  Following the events of Spt 11th, we prepared to respond quickly to any new terrorist or NBC threat.

Dec 11-13: The FY'02 Command Readiness Evaluation (CREP)
(See July 16 above)  Because of the QRF, we only stood the administrative portions of the CREP for FY'02.  Cpl Syring and Lcpl Crossland's efforts reorganizing our equipment (back to normal float configuration) were monumental.  Of course, we're mission ready!
