What is a wedding?
A wedding is a very important event where a man and a woman are joined together by God to become husband and wife.

Why do people get married?
God loves people very much, and thinks that everyone should live in a family.  He thinks that every child deserves a mother and a father.  So, when he wants to bring new children into the world, he first decides on who their parents should be.  This way, the parents can get ready for the children to come.

Do all married people have children?
All married people do not have children, but they all hope to have children.  God loves everyone very much, and assigns different roles to every person.  Some people have a very special role to play.  They are asked to suffer by not having the children that they would very much like to have.  Suffering is a very important thing.  For example, when Jesus suffered and died for us on the Cross, he conquered death and made it possible for us to go to Heaven.  While everyone is called to suffer, God sometimes calls married couples with a special type of suffering; namely that of not having children.

Does everyone get married?
Everyone doesn’t get married, because there is a lot of work that needs to be done; and different people are suited to different work.  For example, God needs people to run His Church.  This is a full-time job.  Since children need to have their parents with them, it just wouldn’t be fair to them if their father was devoted full-time to other important work.  For this reason, Bishops, for example, don’t get married.

How do people know who is called to be married?
God tells people if they are called to marry.  The hard thing is that God whispers very quietly.  So, people have to listen very carefully.  They best way to listen is to pray, to read the Bible, and to go to Church on Sunday.  These things all help you to hear God’s voice, and understand what his plan is for your life.
