This movie scared the fuck out of me, and anyone who knows me knows it takes a lot to scare me.
High Tension is a French movie with both dubbing and subtitles. The movie was released in France in 2003 and is just now coming to the United States.
The story is about a girl(Marie) who goes to her friends(Alex) house (in the middle of nowhere of course) and Alex's family is murdered Marie is taken and the killer doesn't know that Marie is in the house.
The movie is sick, it's violent and bloody but that's not what make it scary. From the very beginning it's creepy with tension-filled music. I had this feeling of impending doom and it's not gonna get better. After the opening title sequence you hear "I won't let anything come between us anymore" over and over again which is creepy enough then there's this exceptionally disturbing part with the killer in his truck then the movie starts so your already on edge.
Sound is such an integral part of the movie betwwen the static and the daunting music I wanted to leave the cinema before anything happened. The movie is very dark and unpleasant (I mean would you want to be in a house where everyone's being murdered?).
This movie is a must see for horror fans it leaves you with and unpleasant and uneasy feeling. Two signs of a great scary movie. This is not a movie with a lot of surprise jumping scenes but I was squirming from the beginning with all the
High Tension which I think is better anyway.
