The livelihoods and development of majority people of Bangladesh mainly depend on agriculture. For increased food production and make the country self-sufficient in food, it is very much essential to introduce sustainable technology to the farmers. In the developed countries, significant advances have been achieved in agricultural and environmental engineering in recent years. The developments have taken place in an environment where food quantity, food safety and food quality, consumer concern, organic agriculture and the development of sustainable production methods and products are crucially important. During my M.Sc. in Agricultural and Bio-resources Engineering at Wageningen University, I have gained significant experience on various aspects of development of technology for the production, processing and storage of foods and non-food agricultural products, the management of the rural area, renewable resources and agro-industrial production chains. In all cases it concerns innovation and sustainable technology, where the close interaction between technology, plants, animals, the environment and society plays a central role. I did my M.Sc. research in the field of sustainable development of technology and the thesis title was “Design and Development of Sustainable Potato Storage for Primary Producers in Bangladesh”. I further intend to enhance my knowledge and expertise in the field of sustainable agricultural technology and proper utilization of bio-resources and pursue my PhD study in any of the areas of post harvest technology, greenhouse technology, and agricultural machinery. I strongly believe that this programme will be highly beneficial for my career as a teaching member of the Department of Farm Power and Machinery in the Bangladesh Agricultural University, as well as a member of the international community contributing in sustaining agricultural technology and proper utilization of bio-resources.
