GREECE #2



      Well were all starved. Had Spariakapita (Spanish Pie) Fasalatha (navy bean soup) Potato Salad Arnaki Fricassee(Lamb and Vegetables) custard cake and Bottle of Vatista Lakomikos very light not to sweet. Greek coffee (very strong). History here the white tower of Thessalonili was used as a prison during Ottoman Empire.



      Today Had Watched Pigs and dogs taking a siesta. Had lovely view of Agias Varvares Rousanou a monastery and other religious refugees. Have visited Parikia the old town called Hora, has very wide streets here as occupations were quite often. During Helenistic era was called Sakoniki from Macedonia Greek. Founded 315 from Macedonia named for his wifes sister of Alexander The Great.



      Visited the Arch of Galerius in Kamard, Statue of Alexander The Great, The Roman Forum, Churchj of Hagios Demetrios. Metropceitan Church of Thessaloniki. St Gregory Palomas, Jewish cematary. Got good photos. These were in the Helenistic era and Roman era. Also Byzantine and Ottoman era also. Seems a lot of different occupations. Thessaloniki has had share of occupations from Bulgaria Austria, Germans Allies from WW1, and WW2.

      Almost all of the Jewish population wiped was out in 1978 earthquake. Well after a breakfast of eggs, bacon, very strong coffee, on our way to Alexandroupolis for the day. This is on the Turkish border. Goes back to 19th century. Has been occupied by Russians Turks Balkans WW1, Greek Turkish war of WW2, though Germans murdered almost all of the Jewish population Nice pictures of the city.



      Well on the move through Zagoria, Ioannina for a quick lunch near the Ionian Sea.. Arrived back at Aesob and Selena home. Met his family and glad to relax. They have 5 children and other relatives living around. They make their own wine, have a lot farm animals.

      Well after a few days of rest decided to head for Athens, after arriving found a nice hotel called Hotel Hera very nice. Supper after long day was Kakavia (fish soup) Tsatzik (Cucumber Dip) Potato Salad Garithes Santorini (Shrimp Santorini. Bread, mixed salad, coffee cake, then a glass or 2 of Santorini Sigalas red nice but very sweet.


      Well another day in Athens(Athinae) Up with a hearty breakfast of Porridge toast and coffee. And a sweet roll. Well arrive at the dock, got on a large ferry. Nice sunny day breezy on the Mediterranean Sea.


      Ionia Sea on one side and Aegean Sea Seen Islands of Kerkira, Kithra, Kikladhes, Aegina, chios, Santorini, corfu naxos Islands, just to many to name. After a good meal of seafood good wine back to the Hotel.

      In Greece.(By the Way Athens is 2500 years old). After good breakfast of eggs ham toast coffee and orange off to see Ancient Athens. Got a English speaking Greek to take me around.
