| Health and Healing |
| The Bible is very specific about what to do for someone who is sick. It has the instructions for healing and how to live to avoid sickness. There are physical, mental and emotional health issues, as well as our spiritual state. No matter which you are talking about, the instructions to be healthy are the same. I believe and understand that Jesus will and can heal any kind of illness that you can dream up, but I do not believe that we are to shun medical care or medicine in our attempts to prove our faith. Jesus Himself, is referred to as the Great Physician. There is no need to think of doctoring as a lack of faith in God. There ARE though, two extremes that should be avoided. We should use our wisdom and training to do for ourselves what we know to do, and we should stand firm against illness and infirmity. We also must remember that Jesus died to set us free from the curse, and all sickness and handicaps fall under the curse. Therefore, we can take authority over it, reject illness, rebuke viruses and infections, and command our tissues, bones and organs to become strong and healthy again. In Jesus' name. "If any of you are sick, let him call for the elders of the church to annoint with oil and lay hands on the sick and they shall recover." In the new testament, Paul encourages Timothy to take a little wine for his stomach. There is more to this passage, but it also serves to tell us that we are expected to care for ourselves. It is NOT an excuse for drunkenness though. When the lepers were healed, they were to present themselves to the priests and offer the sacrifices necessary. Today Jesus isn't asking for us to offer sacrifices, but I included this because it defines an attitude. When we are sick, we should be in contact with our pastor, and let the entire church be in prayer for us. When we are healed, we should rejoice and give thanks to God. There is another extreme that I am saddened by, and it's a product of our technology. So many people live in fear today, because of the high costs of medical care, and the difficulty obtaining it. One hundred years ago, there were no cures or operations for most of the problems we seek help for today. A person lived hard, worked hard, played hard and when they died, they died. Our needs were very simple and our expenses were small. Today we have memorized names of diseases and what the symptoms are, what to do for them and how much it costs to get cured. We live in fear of these things striking, and we rush to the doctor for many treatments. Some are unnecessary, and some only prolong life a few weeks or months. The strain on the soul of man is great, and on his family to attempt to cure and heal. I wish to educate you, to show you that it is God's place to heal, to grant wellness, and wholeness. It is your place to seek God. There is only this. Seek your God, seek His virtue, seek to please Him. He in turn will heal you, provide for you, draw you close to His breast and give you the delights of your heart. Beyond this, the mind of man must be aligned with the will of God. You must learn to train your mind to think "well" not "sick" or "alarmed". Let the peace of Jesus fill you with health. |
