This statue of Don Quixjote de la Mancha and Sancho Panza typifies the great interest and love the people of Guanajuato have for this intrepid knight, his sidekick, and the author, Miguel de Cervantes.

An annual festival, known as the Cervantino is held each October in Guanajuato. This is the largest festival in the Spanish speaking world devoted to music, plays, dance and the arts. Thousands of visitors fill the streets of the city for two weeks to attend performances of groups from all over the world. Near this statue is the Cervantes Theater and a few blocks away is the Museo Iconographico de Quixjote which is completely devoted to art about the famous knight.
