She shifted closer to the pond, running her fingers through the cold water. She shivered, trying to keep her tears back. Rubbing her face on her palms, she sat back and gazed across the water at the small park. Benches, trees, and pathways made it a very nice place to be. She and Kennedy had often brought their two small daughters here. Tara, their oldest, was turning six this spring. She was in kindergarten, a very smart and caring child. Tara was always ready to lend a hug or a kiss when it was needed and loved to draw and paint. Little Alexia, who would only answer to Lexi now, was almost three. Also smart, she was devilish at times. Unlike Tara, who was always careful to not break any of Willow and Kennedys rules, Lexi sometimes did. Kennedy had remarked that their daughter was truly in the midst of the terrible twos, and Willow could not wait for her to be three. She could also be very sweet, which made Kennedy and Willows frustration melt every time. Their household would have one extra mouth to feed by the end of May, as Kennedy was pregnant with their third child. Willow was secretly hoping for a boy, she wanted to know what one was like, but since her three favorite girls all wanted a daughter or a sister, she kept her mouth shut.

Willow sighed, reaching to the side and picking a blade of grass. She tried to make it whistle through her teeth, but no luck. Kennedy was excellent at that. She always had Tara and Lexi laughing when she did.

Mommy! a familiar voice called. Willow whipped her head around to see Tara and Lexi running towards her. Taras long, dark brown hair was flying, and Lexis red curls were bouncing. Willow brought herself up to her knees as Tara tackled her in a full-body hug. Lexi followed soon after, hugging Willow closely. Willow kissed her daughters heads.

Hey, sweeties. Willow murmured. She looked up and saw her very pregnant, but very beautiful wife walking across the grass towards them. She stood and picked up Lexi, walking towards Kennedy.

Hey, darling, you okay? Kennedy asked as they reached her. Willow nodded, trying to hide her tears from her daughter. She looked around for Tara, and found her a few yards away, hopping through the grass. Looking back at Kennedy, she saw her reaching for Lexi. Kennedy took her daughter in her arms, and then pulled Willow close, giving her a kiss that was both passionate and comforting.

I love you. Willow whispered as they pulled away. Lexi reached for her mothers face, tracing the tear tracks down Willows cheeks. Willow smiled and kissed her daughters head.

Mama, why Mommy cwy? Lexi asked, her face full of concern for her mother.

Mommys sad today. Her mommy was sick. Kennedy explained. Lexi had absolutely no concept of death. Theyd told the girls Grandma Sheila had died, and Lexi was asking if she was going to come over and bake them cookies five minutes later.

Oh, okay. Lexi said, and wiggled to get down. She ran off towards her sister, leaving Kennedy alone with Willow.

Kennedy pulled Willow close and rocked her, stroking her hair, Im here, she whispered.

Thanks. Willow smiled genuinely, and leaned her head on Kennedys shoulder, turning to watch their daughters at play. Kennedy rubbed her belly, and Willow put her hand there, too, to feel the new life that was forming.
