The pond was originally going to be a kidney shape to the left side of the garden, but when we started digging we found that when the extension to the house was built thats where they buried the rubble! Consequently the more we dug the more the sides collapsed, so in the end we had to compromise and ended up with a very large hole in the middle of the garden lined with breeze blocks. The final size of the pond is 12' long by 4' wide by 3' deep.
These pics show the pond lined and being filled. We had fun lining the pond as the liner and underlay were mail ordered and when we unpacked them and laid them out we found they were miles too big so there were the two of us struggling with these huge sheets of heavy plastic!! We eventually got the lining in place and the pond started to fill, the lining gradually smoothing out (with a little help!) as the water level rose. The picture below shows a test run of the fountain pump once the water level was high enough. I got soaked trying to adjust the flow rate so that the spray didn't reach beyond the pond edges.
To the left the pond is nearly finished. The liner has been trimmed, the edging stones are in place and the lilies and other plants have been planted
