Charlotte's Page

My name is Charlotte. I'm a senior at Paul D. Schreiber High School. I was born in 1984 at Winthrop University Hospital and have lived in Port Washington for almost all of my life. I currently reside with my younger sister Hannah, my Mom, our Standard Poodle Jazz, and Martin Luther Cat. When I was ten, my parents got divorced - my Dad lives in New Jersey. My "home away from home" is my paternal grandmother's Tree Farm in Central Pennsylvania. Established in 1940, my Quaker grandparents invited their extended family and close friends to build cabins on the wooded property. Today there are 14 cabins on the hill and more than 100 Tree Farm members who I consider part of my extended family. I have been raised as a Unitarian Universalist Quaker Jew. Basically, I have created my own belief system for myself it has been and will be ever-changing.

As someone who likes to be busy and involved, school as taken over my life. I am the editor-in-chief of a huge yearbook and a coordinator for Shakespeare Day. I am crazy enough to attend Board of Education meetings along with friend and classmate Myung-Hee. Together we write meeting notes for The Schreiber Times, The Port News, and an on-line newsletter. Our notes, which sometimes cause trouble, are acclaimed to be "corky" and "fabulous," although you might have to know us personally to better understand those remarks. I tutor and baby-sit all the time. I play the cello and love to read and write. I enjoy kayaking and horseback riding (I think I can't quite remember), thanks to good ol' Brown Ledge Camp where I have spent the past seven summers (and where my Mom was a camper thirty years ago!). I have a great group of friends; together we like to cook, watch movies, walk, and gossip. Over the past four years, we have become experts at throwing surprise parties for each other.

In two months, my plans for the future will be much more definite. Until those college letters arrive, my plans are uncertain. If today I received answers from the eight schools I applied to and got into all of them (haha), I would go to Wesleyan. Yesterday I might have said Hampshiretomorrow Geneseo or Oberlin. Who knows. I am pretty sure I want to study English or Sociology. The entire world thinks I am going to become an English teacher, but I want to explore all my options before I make any definite plans. I do know that I want to work with people, continue to write, and travel as much as possible. We'll see. My real goals in life are to be happy and seize the day!
