RONK, Lucy F., 92, of Wirtz, formerly of Roanoke,
passed away Saturday, February 24, 2001 at her home.
She was the last surviving child of Noah R. and Ida
Brubaker Ronk, formerly of Roanoke County.
Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews,
including Ruth Sink, Emory Ronk, William Ronk, Paul
Beckner, Lewis Beckner, Frances Jamison, Mary
Wolfe, Virginia Ronk, Betty Ronk, Norman Ronk,
Eunice Austin, Vanice Austin, Marion Austin and Lena
Mae Austin. Funeral services will be conducted from
Peters Creek Old German Baptist Church at 10 a.m.
Tuesday, February 27, 2001, with the Home Brethren

DILLON, Janet Brubaker, 70, of Rocky Mount, died
Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at her residence. She
was a longtime member of the Germantown Brick
Church of the Brethren. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Rual Dillon and a brother, Lowell
Brubaker. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law,
Vicki and Gene Risser of Roanoke; one son and
daughter-in-law, Michael and Betsy Dillon of
Danville; three grandchildren, Drew Dillon, Reagan

Cephas Elias Brubaker, 80, of Encore Senior Village in Naples, Fla., formerly
of Covington, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001 in Naples, Fla.
He was born Sept. 19, 1921 in Roanoke, Va. to the late Henry Fletcher and
Nannie (Boone) Brubaker.
Mr. Brubaker is survived by his wife, Edith Marie (Bowman) Brubaker, whom he
married March 3, 1951 in Germantown; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rosanna
and Michael McArdle of Naples, Fla. and Sharon and Marshall Wray of Twain
Harte, Calif.; one son, Doyle Brubaker of Covington; eight grandchildren,
Marissa McArdle, Patrick McArdle, Louis Wray, Erica Wray, Alicia Wray,
Nicholas Wray, Mitchell Brubaker and Brandon Brubaker; two sisters and
brothers-in-law, Frances and Ernest Wolf of Roanoke, Va. and Lucy and Harold
Reed of Roanoke, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Naomi Brubaker of New Carlisle and
Myrtle Brubaker of Calloway, Va.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Emmett
Brubaker of Calloway, Va., Charlie and Eloise Brubaker of North Manchester,
Ind. and Robert and Carol Brubaker of Eldorado; and extended family and
friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Brubaker was preceded in death by one sister,
Margaret Huffman; three brothers, Harry Brubaker, Jacob Brubaker and Paul
Brubaker; two sister-in-laws, Florence Brubaker and Alma Brubaker.
He was retired from Hobart Brothers in Troy and was a member of the Old
German Baptist Brethren Church, Sugar Grove District in Covington.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at the Old German
Baptist Brethren Church, Sugar Grove District, in Covington. Home Brethren
will officiate. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Covington.

BRUBAKER, N. Arthur, 86, of Roanoke, went to be
with the Lord on Monday, February 18, 2002. He was
a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a retired
letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Roanoke
and Salem. He was a member of Oakland Baptist
Church for 56 years where he had served as a Sunday
School Teacher and a Deacon. He is survived by his

RUBAKER, Mary Viola Slayton, of Rocky Mount,
was called by God to her heavenly home on Sunday,
March 24, 2002, to join her husband, Isaac, her two
sons, Lewis and George, her parents, Jim and Josie
Slayton, her brothers. Woodsie and Buford Slayton, and
her granddaughter, Donna Lucas. She was a faithful
member of Antioch Church of the Brethren, since her
baptism in 1931, and enjoyed serving in the Willing
Workers Circle. God blessed her with a long life of
more than 95 years and she blessed others by giving to
all who knew her. One way she enjoyed giving of
herself was through making and sharing quilts. She also
enjoyed sharing with others her knowledge of the art of
churning butter, making apple butter, and making
homemade molasses. She taught her children good
work habits and how to enjoy life through hard work
and the use of God-given talents, but most importantly,
she taught us about Jesus and was a living example of
His love. She welcomed each new addition to her
family and loved each one. Those surviving who loved
and knew her best, her children. Her daughter and
faithful caregiver, Marie Brubaker, Mary Lucas, Henry
and Peggy Brubaker, Homer and Ruth Graham,
Francis and Lorine Slough, Ruby Wells, Henry and
Betty Wagner, Jesse and Gracie Mullins, Betty
Brubaker, and Norene Brubaker. Her 30 grandchildren,
Lewis, Jr., Gary, Janice, George, Jr., Randy, and
Robbie Brubaker, Louanne Allard, Bonnie Bodnar,
Valerie Latimer, Tammy Johnson, Leon, James, and
Edwin Lucas, Deborah Guthrie, Diane Hartman,

Monica Bedsaul, Lindsey, Lauren, Austin, and Brandon
Slough, Allen and Ashley Fain, Allison, Luke, and
Summer Wagner, Mackenzie Akers, Sarah Kate
Holley, Brady and Karly Mullins, and one un-born
great-grandchild. Her three great-great-grandchildren,
Trevor and Tyler Bradford, and Zachary Blankenship.
Her two sisters, Bessie Robertson and Eula Robertson.
Her very special friend, Mrs. Ethel Naff. Several
nieces and nephews including a special niece, Shirley
Tatum. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers are her
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and
great-great-grandchildren. We thank God for her long
life and her love for everyone. She had many friends
and neighbors who prayed, visited, called, and sent
cards. A special thanks for each act of kindness to her.
Funeral services will be conducted by her grandson,
Rev. James Lucas and Rev. Frank B. Layman, Jr. at
Antioch Church of the Brethren on Wednesday, March
27, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the church
cemetery. Because it was her wish to have her flowers
to enjoy while she was living, the family suggests
memorials be made to the Callaway Rescue Squad,
P.O. Box 44, Callaway, Va. 24067. Friends may call at
Antioch Church of the Brethren any time after 3 p.m.
Tuesday to visit with her family. Flora Funeral Service,
South Main Street, Rocky Mount is in charge of
arrangements.

Edward M. (Ed) Brubaker, 84, of
Roanoke, went to be with the Lord
Tuesday, December 16, 2003. He was a
member of First Baptist Church for 34
years where he served as a former Deacon
and Usher, and was a member of the
Heritage Singers. He was a retired bus
operator for the former Safety Motor
Transit Company / Valley Metro with 43
years service, and was one of the last street
car motorman. After retirement, he was
employed by Oakey's Vinton Chapel for 17
years. He was preceded in death by his
parents, Ezra A. and Sallie Ann Martin
Brubaker and a brother, Charles L.
Brubaker. Surviving are his wife of 57 1 / 2
years, Virginia M. Brubaker; sons and
daughters-in-law, Wayne and Charlotte
Brubaker of Roanoke County, Donnie and
Diane Brubaker of Vinton, Jimmy and Edna
Brubaker of Roanoke; grandchildren,
Steven Staton, Cameron Brubaker, April
Brubaker, Blake Brubaker, and Vickie
