Finished Product: A Fretless Jazz Bass
This turned out to be a very fun and exciting project
Again, I make no claims of being an expert, but I will say that I looked into
this for a while before getting up the guts to rip the frets out of this bass If
it is your only guitar, I'd probably think twice. I chose to convert this bass
because I was interested in trying my hand at fretless playing, and I own other
fretted basses that I simply love. But now that this jazz bass is fretless, it
is again useful. This is a great way to restore interest in an old bass that you
may have tucked in the closet. One last tip: If you are going to convert a bass that
hasn't been played much lately, soak down the board with lemon oil the day
before you start the project. This will make the fret removal easier and should
help prevent the board from chipping.
