| Meeting marred by a fatality
An except from the book Brooklands bikes in the twenties by Peter Hartley (Argus Books Limited), which relates the manner in which the first ever motorcycling fatality occurred at the Brooklands track. The ill-fated rider was Indian-mounted Arthur Moorhouse, who had been a member of the victorious 1-2-3 Indian team that rode in the 1911 Isle of Man TT race. Four events were included in the programme of the BMCRC's Second Monthly Race Meeting of 1912 on Saturday, April 20th. The June-like and almost windless conditions proved ideal for the setting up of high speeds in the first event: the first in the 1912 series of Record Time Trials. These counted towards an aggregate award to be presented at the end of the racing season. The fastest speeds in each class were as follows: RECORD TIME TRIALS Speeds (mph) over: fs km fs ml Solo classes B (350 cc) 1. G. E. Stanley (299 Singer) 58.13 57.91 2. N. A.
