The CHAOSociety Presents...
Cheep (and Orm) Information.

We love Orm and Cheep! It was the only tv programme in living memory to feature a co-habiting worm and bird. The woodland chums will exist forever in many of our hearts. The programme was watched by over seven million viewers at its peak, they were bigger than Blue Peter but not quite as big as Jesus (yet).

If you were too young to remember or just want to relive the wonder then you have come to the right place. Get ready for the CHAOSociety crash course in Orm and Cheep

A Brief Introduction...

Orm & Cheep was on ITV (UK) at lunchtimes and was narrated by Richard Briers, who also performed all the voices of the characters. Orm and Cheep lived together in their underground home, although it is Orm's home and Cheep just was lodging. Orm does like his home to be neat and clean, yet he does not seem to mind when Mole enters his home by digging up the floorboards. Cheep is very childish and Orm does acts like his mum (which he isn't) always telling Cheep to never enter (yes, 'enter') the dangerous 'Dark Wood' where his foes live. Cheep, being Cheep, often ignores this warning and always almost gets eaten, the fool.

The programme claims to be "cartoon fun" which is strange as the characters are puppets, not very good puppets, but puppets. The creators of the series have seemed to ignored some important factors, like Cheep is a bird and Orm is a worm, and birds eat worms ( as would do moles and hedgehogs ). Also whenever the animals are in trouble they shout out their own names, where in real life people tend to shout out other peoples names to attract help. It also was just quite upsetting and scary for small children ! But all these faults just make the programme much more enjoyable.

Orm and Cheep clean, but Mole still insists on not using the
door as he much prefers digging up the floorboards.

Orm and Cheep Characters:

Orm is a worm who wears a dashing t-shirt with Orm written on it (we often wonder if he went to the t-shirt printing shop with the intention of a getting a "worm" t-shirt made but he only had money for just three letters... and Orm is a better name than 'Wor') Anyhoo, he is a lovely gentle being who adopted our friend Cheep.

Cheep is a small (some say annoying) bird who fell from his nest as a youngster. He cannot fly and often this gets him into a world of trouble. Cheep loves to paint, play pirates and eat biscuits (nutty ones).

Snail is a snail (oddly enough) and he talks...very...slowly. Once saved by our two heros during a flood, he is one of their best friends and returned the favour by saving Cheep from the mercy of Crow. They can often (once) be seen playing cricket together. You can play too as long as you know what a bloody 'offbreak' is.

Mouse's sex is a dubious one. Male or female? We just don't know. The softly spoken character is very good cook (only biscuits) and enjoys playing pirates with Cheep.

Mole loves to tunnel! "Oh the joys of tunnelling" he sings and we agree. He sports a lovely nose and is fantastic in general except he does not know what an offbreak is.

Hedgehog is the last of our little group's friends. Speaking in an ex-military voice he orders the others into order and boy that rabble need sorting out.

Orm and Cheep's Foes (boo, hiss)

Crow is a wicked piece of work as he always wants to eat our friend Cheep. Flying without using a safety net (but strings) he lives way up high in a very tall tree in the Dark Wood. "Ka! Got you now you foolish bird" he says, but if he catches you he will leave you unattended to get some veg-get-tables. This gives the perfect moment to escape...now where is Snail with that floating rope?

Cat is also wants to chomp on Cheep (as cats eat birds). She cannot see you if you stand very still like the t-rex in Jurassic Park. Also another way to rid yourself to her is to tie a bell to her tail - she hates that.

Rat is stupid. So stupid infact that you don't even have to worry about stopping him from eating Cheep as he will probably fall in to river of his own accord or something.

"Ka!" says Crow who is very scary. Rat however is dense (as Cheep)
