Rubber Producers' Societies (RPSs) should be strengthened : Chariman, Rubber Board
Sri. SM Desalphine,Chairman, Rubber Board stated that the Rubber Producers' Societies should be strengthened to take advantage of the possibilites in the global market.  He further stated that, the Rubber Board will conduct various programmes and workshops with the participation of experts, to make the RPSs' more effective and functional during the 10th Plan period.  After the state wise inauguration of the Campaign programme-2004 organized at Kottayam, the Chairman addressed the gathering.
Sri. Ettumanoor Radhakrishnan, Vice-Chairman, Rubber Board presided over the function.  Dr. AK Krishnakumar, Rubber Production Commissioner delivered the key note address.  Sri. MS Benny, Chief Financial Manager, Geojit Financial Services made a talk on "Future Trading of Rubber".  Sri. PR Muraleedharan (Board Member), Sri. MA Jacob (President, NFRPS) and  Presidents of various RPSs felicitated.  Development Officers of RO Kottayam Smt. PV Claramma welcomed the participants and Sri. PK Joseph extended vote of thanks.

Remarks: By availing a reasonable price to the farmers through RPS's is a remedy for Rubber Board  to strengthen it. For eg. the 14th Annual meeting of Peyad RPS Reg. No 65/90 assembled on 29/12/04  was an evidence of irregularities against farmers. One of the director board members stated that he was getting  Rs. 3/-  lesser than the prevailing market price.  So in the same way the other farmers are also losers when they sell Latex to RPS. But they may not be aware of the fact. A comparison can be done with me by other farmers about the income per each tree from April to 24 December 2004 (I got an yield of 4 kgs per tree including scrap and value Rs. 210.08/- per tree except cover crop and grass).

ANNOUNCEMTNT

I send many Email letters to Department of Commerce, Indian Rubber Board, Dr.M.S.Swaminathan etc. But no reply is getting about my claim on irregularities, because higher Officials are handling the higher posts for a long period which will help them to take illegal benefits. The raw rubber smuggling through the borders are not included with production of other states. Actually productivity at Kulasekharam is higher than Thiruvananthapuram. Where does the rubber goes? It goes to the hands of manufacturers and finished products are selling with out bills to make more profits with a heavy loss for Department of Commerce and the State Govt. As a remedy for it tax may be levied per tapping tree related with average annual price to avoid the evasion of purchase taxes. Big tyres may be stamped numbers on each tyre and shown on selling bills to protect excise duty etc. The claim of Tyre manufacturers that they are giving maximum amount of excise duty & tax to Govts. is wrong. The tax is paying by the users of finished products. The State & Central Govts. are facing a great loss by tax evasion. Export and import can be done with out holding rubber under the pretext of Globalisation. All the harassments are with small growers and with small scale Industries.
