A. Cadets' Promotion

The promotion exercises cater for the promotion of cadets from the ranks of Lance Corporal right up to the rank of Station Inspector. Two promotion exercises are held each year. Promotion tests for the ranks of Lance Corporal up to the rank of Staff Sergeant are carried out at Unit level. A Selection Board comprising the Area Assistant Commandant (chairperson) and two other Officers-In-Charge of Unit shall interview cadets for the promotion to the rank of Station Inspector.

The time frame for the conduct of the promotion exercises is as follows:

        1st Promotion Exercise: by end March of each year
        2nd Promotion Exercise: by mid October of each year

B. Officers' Promotion

The promotion exercise for NPCC Officer will be held as and when the need arises, depending on the vacancy/status in the Establishment. The objectives of the promotion exercise is:

     a.   To promote capable officers to the next higher rank.
     b.   To show recognition of the officers' work and contribution
                 to the Corps.

Officer for promotion to the next higher rank may be short-listed by NPCC HQ to appear before the Promotion Board for the interview. The qualifying period for promotion to the rank of ASP from Inspector is a minimum of 5 years and to the rank of DSP is 4 year.
