BOOK A LESSON
For current students only
Kohsei English Conversation School is named after our son, Kohsei, who was born on 6th of May 2000.  As this site is further developed, we will post more photos of him and places we take him in Japan.
ABOUT US

Charlie Gilkes, the teacher at Kohsei English Conversation School is an Australian who is experienced in teachng English to Japanese people of all ages.  In 2001 he will study Japanese at Kansai Gaikokugo Daigaku.

Charlie has studied law for three years at the University of Western Australia and is currently taking some time off before finishing his final year.  Whilst he is in Japan he hopes to master the Japanese language and learn more about Japanese culture.

Charlie's wife Hitomi is from Osaka and has lived in Perth Australia for five years.
TEACHING STYLE

We believe that learning a language should be fun.  Being able to speak English not only brings many opportunites for you to develop your career, but also to travel, watch foreign movies without subtitles and most importantly to make friends.

We try to tailor our lessons to suit the needs of individual students.  While some students prefer very structured lessons with a lot of drills and "listen and repeat"  exercises to improve pronunciation and grammar, other students prefer to simply talk about issues that interest them.  Whatever kind of lesson you want, we will structure our lessons to suit your needs.

As well as using popular textbooks, we also like to find materials on the internet and in English language newspapers.  This means our lessons are about contemporary (recent) topics which are of interest to our students.  We also encourage students to bring in material they would like to study.

KEEP A DIARY
Students can keep a diary, which we read to check their grammar and general progress.  Of course the student decides whether they want to keep a diary, but we recommend that they  do, as it is a great way to improve grammar as well as writing ability, vocabulary and speaking ability.
