September

September was a great month! Cynthia was on leave and able to have research and writing time. We drove west toward Michigan through Pittsburgh, where we visited Krist's dad, and his sister Connie and Dave (not to mention their great dogs Lily and Vinny). We stopped by Cynthia's parents in northern Indiana for a bit, and Krist went with Cynthia's dad to the railroad museum in Elkhart, Indiana. Cynthia was very happy to see her beloved Grandma Dodie in the nursing home. She is now 93 and often confused, but still in many ways herself, witty and very cheery.

Then Cynthia spent the rest of the month in northern Michigan--and Krist had some time there too. We rented a wonderful little cottage on Old Mission Peninsula, north of Traverse City. Cynthia was delighted to see her old college friend Howard at his big farmhouse near Lake Michigan--complete with lovely apple orchard. She had the chance to spend time with her mom's best friend Mary Lou McGue, a retired librarian from Sturgis who has moved up to live in that same area, and has a gorgeous view from her condo.

We had fun exploring forests, beaches, and old lighthouses. Lots of gorgeous scenery, including spectacular, ever-changing sunsets!
