Chapter 9
Seyona chuckled to herself as she looked over the side of the cruise ship, now a cruise resident; some people just begged to be picked.
"Hey! Let me go! I didn't mean it, really!" A young voice rang through the air.
Seyona looked over her shoulder to see  Leli struggling with a something in her arms. She was mad.
"Give it back, you little monster!" She screeched.
Seyona noticed, with nervousness, her friend and partner was attracting a crowd. She looked across the ocean and tried to ignore them.
Leli screamed, "Watch where you're touching!" This was followed by a younger boy's voice, equally as loud and screechy, "Well I would, lady, if ya weren't holdin' on me so darnt tight!" "TIGHT! You call this TIGHT! THIS IS TIGHT!!!" "ACK! YER CHOCKIN' ME YOU CRAZY WENCH!""WENCH?! WENCH!?!? THAT'S IT! SEYOOOOONNAAA!!!!!"
Seyona slumped against the silver plated railing, praying Leli would just dissapear.   "SEYONA!!!!!!"
The more mature thief increased her concentration on the waves, but to no avail, she heard Leli and the brat coming closer.
Seyona's eyes went wide when somebody kicked her in the butt. She whirled around and confronted Leli, her hair was unraveled from her ponytail. Seyona looked to see, Leli had a ragged looking boy in a headlock.  His hair was short and a musty brown colour, she noticed his clothes weren't much better, more like rags, a white sleeveless shirt and moss green pants that was torn just above his knees, then Seyona noticed something that was not part of a normal human boy, from his shoulder blades came two dark leathery wings and at his feet were talons of that of a bird. Seyona's eyes grew as big as saucers, "It's a winger!"
At the sound of his species name, the boy looked Seyona hard in the eye with his dark brown ones, "I'm not an it." He said harshly, then he rolled his eyes and added in an afterthought, "Boy, what is wit chicks nowadays? They seem to be gettin' dumber and dum-"   He was cut of when Leli stomped on his foot. "YEOW! THAT'S IT; I"M OUTTA HERE!" The boy started to beat his wings.
"LELI, LET GO OF HIM!" Seyona cried, grabbing Leli. She knew the boy, no matter how small and frail he looked, could do some serious damage.
"NO! HE'S MINE!!!"
"LELI, WHAT is WRONG with you?!" Seyona screamed, trying to pull Leli away from the boy.
"He stole my SCARF!" Leli cried in rage, exerting some kind of reserve strength.  She pulled the almost airborne boy by the wings and pinned him to the ground.
"Ow!  Hey, that hurts, ya..." The boy squirmed to free himself
"Give it back, you little turd!" Leli yelled in his face, almost ready to strangle the freak.
"Fine!  If ya want the damned thing so bad, here, ye can have it!" The winger threw the yellow scarf in her face and Leli immediately backed off, clutching the piece of cloth like it was a baby or something.
The boy got to his feet.  "Sheesh, women these days!  It's only a scarf, lady, nothin' to go ballistic over!!"  With that he took to the air and flew to the lookout tower, grumbling to himself.
Seyona looked at her friend strangely.  "Yeah, Leli...it's only a scarf, why are you getting so worked up..."
"Terran gave me this scarf!" Leli cut her off, standing up.  "I need a better place to put it..."
Seyona smiled, understanding.  "Here...how about we use it as a hair tie?" She took the scarf from Leli and tied it to her hair, making a lovely sort of yellow ribbon.
Suddenly happy again, Leli bounced around the ship, humming to herself.  She stopped and raised her head toward the lookout tower. "And if you EVER put your hands on my Terran's scarf again, I'm gonna make it so you never fly again!"
"Tough words, lady!" The voice came back, echoing and defiant.  "You can talk the talk...but can you walk the walk?"
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?!" Leli screamed back.  Seyona sighed.  They were once again drawing a crowd.
Seyona grabbed Leli's arm and started dragging her away.
"Ow!  Hey, I'm not done yet!" Leli fought her.
"Let's GO, Leli..." Seyona dragged her friend toward a different part of the ship, where the could hopefully sit in peace...
She stopped, staring at a figure who was leaning over the railing, watching the ocean.  His clothes were a little different, but...
"Ridleheim?" Seyona blinked...and he was gone.
"Hello...Leli to Seyona...earth to Seyona...come in Seyona..." Leli waved a hand in front of her stunned friend's face.  No response.  It seemed this would take some drastic measures.  She took a deep breath.  "SEYONA!!!" She screamed in Seyona's ear, making the fellow thief jump about  a mile in the air.
Seyona turned to face her friend, grabbing her by the shoulders.  "What did I tell you about scaring me like that?!"
"What?" Leli shrugged out of Seyona's grasp.  "I had to wake you up somehow...you looked like you saw a ghost or something.  "C'mon, lets go see what they're doing over here!" She ran over to where some people were staring at something in the water.  "Wow...I've never seen a whale before...come look at this, Seyona!"
Seyona sighed.  How could she tell this was going to be a VERY long trip?  And who was that person that looked like Ridl...Luc?  Was she losing her mind, or what?  Taking a deep breath she joined her friend at the railing to watch the whales swimming along side the ship.
In the shadows a figure watched them.  He'd been right...these two definitely needed all the help they could get...
