Subject: Please Come to Group and Alter Your Access Settings

Dear CFC_Experimental Member,

A new member joined today who had a small problem with her e-mail
setup. I think we are all aware of what happened. We've located the
person's preferred address and written a letter explaining the
situation (see letter below). The point of reviewing this situation
is that it may be something we as group owners and moderators will
have to handle in the future. The procedure is:

1) switch the person only to web access
2) locate their correct e-mail address in their profile or some other
source (I used a homepage reference)
3) write the person a polite letter.

Unfortunately, in this situation, some one of us compounded the
problem by switching everyone in the group to the access setting "No
Email." That setting would have been appropriate for the individual
causing the problem as stated, but not for the entire group. I have
now changed everyone back to "Daily Digest" access. Without a record
of your individual preferences, it was the only access setting that
made sense. If you would prefer some other, please come to group and
alter your access setting.

Dear [new member],

We are glad to have you join our membership and look forward to your
posting and participation. However, we must note that there is a
small difficulty with your registration. It appears you are using
your Yahoo! mail as your default registration. Further, that you have
set your Yahoo! mail to auto-reply for correspondence to be sent to
your Hotmail account. Unfortunately, that means that you are not
receiving mail from the group, CFC_Experimental, and the group is
receiving a copy of the auto-reply to everything we post. This
arrangement is extremely disturbing to the other members, so we are
temporarily resetting your account to "web only" access.

What needs to be done, of course, if for you to convert your Hotmail
account address in your ID preferences or in your ID itself so that
mail from the group will be properly directed to the appropriate
account. Once this correction has been made, you can yourself reset
your group access to the mail setting desired.

We hope that in spite of this small difficulty, you will continue with
us and become a valued member of CFC_Experimental.

Sincerely yours,
AngelPie_Mouse

A friend of mine is trying to set up a Group (Natural Menopause) that
focuses on natural alternatives to hormone replacement therapy. She
is trying to reach a specific group which is Hispanic. How does she
go about setting up a board that is 100% in Spanish.

Thanks for your help.

Subject: Fw: Virus Warning - Sircam

hello everyone.
There is a new virus out there that is becoming a problem. You may have already seen it from your mail lists. According to the Trend web site http://wtc.trendmicro.com/wtc/ the sircam virus is the most reported virus in the world. There are 3 times more reported cases world wide than #2 vbs.loveletter.a and 4 times in North America. The only place where is it's not #1 is Africa where is sits at #6. I have already received it a few times . More information can be found at http://vil.nai.com/vil/virusSummary.asp?virus_k=99141 McAfee has released an early update of its anti virus software and Norton's latest (July 19.01)already protects you. Please update your anti virus software and "lets be careful out there"

Howdy there,

VIRUS WARNING ISSUED BY SHORTY ON:  22 July, 2001
VIRUS WARNING UPDATED BY SHORTY ON:

This is a VIRUS WARNING from Shorty!
__________________________________________

VIRUS INFO

Well, guess what happened this weekend, I go camping and I find 15 infected e-mails on my computer upon my return, this one seems to be spreading fast so be careful of it.  It has a resemblance to the MAGISTR warning that I sent out previously.

Basically this Mass-mailing Virus/Worm takes files from your computer attaches itself and mails itself out to e-mail addresses found in the Windows Address book as well as e-mail addresses found in the temporary internet cache.  This is the way that the worm spreads.  The payload of the virus is set to trigger on the 16th October and attempts to delete files.

The virus also tries to degrade system performance by using up the remaining free space on the hard disk by adding text to the file c:/recycled/sircam.sys on every system start-up.

The virus/worm arrives in an infected e-mail as depicted below, it may be in either Spanish or English.  The english version is what I have depicted below, and the spanish is similar:

SUBJECT:
        - Taken from a filename on the infected computer, the attachment will have the same name.

BODY:
        Hi! How are you?

        One of the following lines
        - I send you this file in order to have your advice
        - I hope you can help me with this file that I send
        - I hope you like the file that I sendo you
        - This is the file with the information that you ask for

        See you later. Thanks

ATTACHMENT:
        - Random file selected from infected computer, same as subject line.

Again, this one seems to be spreading quite quickly, so beware.

For more information or removal instructions for this virus/worm please visit the anti-virus sites below.

oh my goodness... I received this in e-mail while at work and almost viewed it but could tell it was someone i didn't know and was afraid it was a link to porno so i deleted it. I don't remember viewing it. good thing I guess. all I viewed was the e-mail itself saying to look at this site AND it asking for my advice but instead of viewing attachment I deleted it.

Subject: [eGs] AOL email fix

As many of you know, recently AOL email users have been having trouble
receiving email from Yahoo! Groups. The problem should now be fixed.

What happened:
We recently changed the IP addresses on a number or our servers. AOL didn't recognize the new numbers and because of the volume of incoming email, they thought we might be spamming them, so they blocked the email coming from us. They updated their list of accepted IPs last night at 6:30 PM PST, so all should be fine.
