| Strawberries open a world of possibilities. It occured to me when I was having a lunch discussion with my friends about illegal immigration into California. We were talking about how we need to stop the illegal immigrants from coming in, and how they're taking over our great state with thier mass numbers, bi-ligual schools, and instant 'citizenship' through childbirth. Now, I was as ready as the next guy to shout, "Yeah!, get 'em outta here!" but right then it hit me: "Hey!" I exclaimed, "if we get rid of all the Mexicans, then who's gonna pick my strawberries?" My friends heartily agreed to my keen observation. We were listing all of the great things about strawberries when sombody said something that stuck out from the backround hum. Something that opened a window of possibilities that might never be closed again. "Why, we wouldn't have Pop-Tarts! What would we do without Pop-Tarts?" shouted one deeply insightful young fellow. What he said intrigued us all greatly. "What do Pop-Tarts have to do with anything?" I aptly inquired. "Well," the young chap replied, "The best Pop-Tarts are the ones with the strawberry filling and the frosting with sprinkles, right?" "Yeah whats your point?" I smugly retorted "Well," he continued "As true as it is that the strawberry filling is artificial, there has to be some base for that flavor. Namely, strawberries." "Ah Touche!" I exclaimed as we all acknowledged his insight "But that's not all," he waited for our undivided attention, "Those sprinkles have to come from somewhere. Now between you and me, what would be cheaper, buying a big machine to make all those itty-bitty sprinkles, or, just hiring a bunch of Mexicans?" "Wow, you're right," I realized out loud, "but, that could be true for almost anything..." and it was all downhill from there. |
