Junior Girl Scout Troop 047 is located in the twin cities of Alexandria and Pineville in the Central Louisiana area in Rapides Parish (a parish is the same as a county in other states). Our web site also contains information on our sister troops, Daisy Troop 048 and Brownie Troop 046.
Our troops pick one subject every year which we study and base our activities and field trips on. Last year our troops studied bats. We learned about bats , built bat houses with our Dads, handed out information on bat conservation at Zoo Boo and joined Bat Conservation International. Three of our members also attended the Bat-O-Rama at Devil's Den State Park in West Fork, Arkansas.
This year we will be studying our Louisiana heritage. We are basing our badge activities, wherever possible, on this subject. We will be touring Frogmore Plantation and Cotton Gin, exploring the Civil War battlefield of Fort Hudson on their annual "Girl Scout Day", touring the Great River Road Plantations with an overnight stay at the Tezcuco Plantation, attending Alexandria's Children's Mardi Gras Parade, touring Avery Island, etc. Please check back with us often to see what we have done and what we have planned.
In conjunction with our study of Louisiana, we have chosen to represent France (from whom Louisiana was purchased in 1803)on Thinking Day 2002. In the past, we have represented China, Venezuela, Egypt and Australia.
For safety reasons, our webmistress Ms Kim, will be checking our email regularly for us! We would love to hear from other troops from around the country and the world, so please say hello and we will reply when we can.
