Scheduled Field Trip Information

September 17, 2001

Dear Parents:

Our Montessori Girl Scout troops studied bat conservation last year.  Our theme this year is “Louisiana’s History”.  We will be taking many field trips this year centered around that theme, including:

1.                Exploring the Civil War battlefield of Fort Hudson on their annual “Girl Scout Day” on October 13th;

2.                Attending Alexandria’s Children’s Mardi Gras Parade on February 9th;

3.                Touring the Great River Road Plantations on April 13th (including an optional overnight stay at Tezcuco Plantation); and

4.                Taking a trip to Avery Island in May.

In conjunction with that theme, we will be studying France this year and learning about our Louisiana heritage.  If you have any ideals or questions, please call Regina Paul at 445-0138 (work) or 466-9468 (home).

Upcoming Fieldtrips

Girl Scout Day at the Zoo

The Girl Scout Council of Central Louisiana is hosting its annual “Badge in a Day at the Zoo!” on Saturday, October 6th at the Alexandria Zoo.  The Brownies will be attending from noon until 2 p.m. and the Juniors will be attending from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m.  Juniors need not have a parent present to attend.  No activities will be held this year for Daisies.  All Girl Scouts will earn a badge in its entirety and receive a fun patch.  Tag-a-longs and parents are welcome, but may not participate in the program.  Regular zoo entrance fees will apply to them. Montessori Girl Scouts wishing to participate MUST pre-register by providing Regina Paul with $6.00 by noon on Friday, September 21st.  No late registrations will be allowed.  Drinks will be provided by the Council, however, I recommend you bring water.

Frogmore Plantation

Junior Troop 047 will be touring Frogmore Plantation, a 1800-acre working cotton plantation, including an operating cotton gin and authentic slave cabins, as well as other dependent buildings.  The tour is scheduled from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 29th.  The cost is $4.50 per person.  We will leave the school at 2:00 p.m. sharp!  Please let me know if you can drive.  No tag-a-longs will be permitted, however, Brownies wishing to work on their bridging patch to Juniors may participate.  We will eat at Jackie’s Seafood Buffet in Jonesville on the way home.  Please send some money to cover the cost of your child’s meal.
