D Block is comprised of 42 cells with varying degrees of penalization. For the most serious offenders, there is the Strip Cell, a dark, steel encased cell that assures complete depravation of all peripheral senses. There is one hole in the floor to relieve oneself, the flushing controlled by guards. Inmates are snet to the cell with no clothing and are fed restricted diets. Whne the door is closed, the empty cell is completely pitch black.
The main corridor was given the name "Broadway" by the inmates. The cells along this corridor are considered the least desireable. The ones on the bottom tier are inherently colder against the long slick run of cement, and they are the least private since guards, inmates, and other personnel frequent this corridor. |
