Celys Logo   Search Engine Optimization

Web Site:www.geocities.com/celyoneill

My site was submitted to the google search engine in August 2003. On Friday 31st October it was found by a fellow student in google by using the key words cely oneill. With these two keywords, it ranked number three. I then did a search for my first three keywords, cely oneill logo, and it was ranked number one.

The reason I feel that I got into the search engines was that about four weeks before, I put a link to this site on my genealagy site, which has a ranking of seven in google. Anther way to get your site into the search engines is to post to forums and also when you visit sites that have guestbooks put it there also.

These guidelines will help the search engines find and rank you site.

  1. Make a site with a clear hierarchy and text links.
  2. Every page should be reachable from at least one static text link.
  3. Offer a site map to users with links that point to the important parts of the site.
  4. Create a useful, information-rich site and write pages that clearly and accurately describe the content.
  5. Consider the words users would type to find the web pages and include these words within the site.
  6. Use mainly text and keep images to a minimum on the index page.
  7. Ensure that TITLE and ALT tags are descriptive and accurate
  8. Check for broken links and correct HTML.
  9. The search engine spider do not crawl dynamic pages as well as static pages. It helps to keep the parameters short and the number of them small.
  10. Keep the links on a given page to a reasonable number (fewer than 100).

Have clean code.

Use keywords more than 10% of total content.

Use external scripts eg css and javascript.

Validate your code

Use alt tages on images

Use width and height on all images

  1. Avoid hidden text or hidden links.
  2. Don't employ cloaking or sneaky redirects.
  3. Don't sent automated queries to google.
  4. Don't load pages with irrelevant words.
  5. Don't create mutliple pages, subdomains or domains with duplicate content.

The way to determine if the site has been ranked by the search engines is by the use of predetermined key words. The search results of these key words in assessed prior to submission These keywords are selected on the basis that they are unique and give only a few results. This makes it simple to determine when the search engine has listed the site by listing the site in the search engine results.

The 5 keywords for my site are cely oneill logo kingscliff tafe. On the 31 October 2003, only the first three keywords were found and at number one. A week late on the 7 November all keywords were found and with the 5 keywords, found all the pages on my site. Using the search term, celyoneill, it also found my other two sites. They are kingscliff.celyoneill.com and cely.celyoneill.com

If for some reason my site didn't get in the search engines there are other options. For example buying keywords for result rankings. By doing this, it would ensure that when these keywords were search for the site would be found.
