Therese had made up her mind: If her daughter wanted to perform, she should sing her own songs, and no one elses. So she wrote her a song, and Celine and her broher Michel made the melody. The song was called "Ce n'etait qu'un r�ve", which means "It was only a dream" in English. They recorded it on a demotape, and sent it to the most successful manager in Montreal; Mr. Rene Angelil.
At first, they didn't hear anything from him, so Michel called him and asked why he hadn't listened to the tape yet. Rene had heard about the Dion's, but he couldn't help being surprised by the person in the other end's spontanity. He asked Michel how he could know. "I know because you would have called me if you had."
Rene promised he'd listen to the tape, and then call back. Ten minutes later, the phone rang in the Dion-house. "May your sister come to my office?" Mr. Angelil asked. "When?" Michel replied. "Now."
A few hours later, Celine and her mother arrived at Mr. Angelil's office. He asked Celine if she could sing for him. "Here? In this room?" Celine replied. "I'm used to having a microphone" Celine continued. Mr. Angelil handed her a pencil, and told her to pretend to be standing on the greatest stage ever singing.
He didn't have to ask her twice; she'd done this uncountable times before at home. She pretended as if the shelves above Mr. Angelil's head were balconies, there were many thousand fans listening to her, and her family were sitting on the first row.
Suddenly she looked at Mr. Angelil. He had tears in his eyes! Her mother looked at her daughter, smiling. "You got him!"
He signed a contract right away, but he didn't tell Celine he would have to mortage his house to financiate her two first albums...
What happens next?
a) The first album goes well, but nothing else happens.
b) Everything goes well, and she's recording many albums.
c) Not everything goes smoothly, but she's a rising star. |
