| Vampire, Psionic Torn from the world of the living, these dangerous creatures were once mortals. Now devoid of human feeling these creatures thrive on our blood and thoughts. Psionic vampires look as they did in life but with a feral cast to their features. Those who havent fed lately might appear pale, gaunt, perhaps even decaying. Their dress varies from individual to individual. One common feature is that a psionic vampire casts no image whether by shadow or reflection. Creating a Psionic Vampire Psionic vampire is a template that can be added to any humanoid, or monstrous humanoid. The creature (hereafter referred to as the base creature) type changes to undead. It otherwise uses all the base creatures statistics and special abilities except as noted here. Hit Dice: Increase to d12. AC: The base creatures natural armor improves by +6. Attacks: A psionic vampire retains all attacks of the base creature and also gains a slam attack if it didnt already have one. Damage: Vampires have slam attacks. If the base creature does not have this attack form, use the damage values in the table below. Creatures with natural attacks retain their old damage ratings or use the values below, whichever is better. Size Damage Fine 1 Diminutive 1d2 Tiny 1d3 Small 1d4 Medium 1d6 Large 1d8 Huge 2d6 Gargantuan 2d8 Colossal 4d6 Special Attacks: A psionic vampire retains all the special attacks of the base creature and also gains those listed below. Blood Drain (Ex): A psionic vampire can suck blood from a living victim with its fangs by making a grapple check. If it pins the foe, it drains blood, inflicting 1d4 temporary Constitution damage each round the pin is maintained. Psionics (Sp): At will-burst, cat fall, detect thoughts, lesser domination, spider climb, and suggestion. Attack and Defense Modes: ego whip/empty mind. Create Spawn (Su): A humanoid or monstrous humanoid damaged to Constitution 0 or less and then given a least a drop of a psionic vampires blood rises as a psionic vampire within 1d4 hours. If slain and raised by the same psionic vampire, the new psionic vampire is under the command of that creature and remains enslaved until its masters death. Otherwise it is free willed. Special Qualities: A vampire retains all the special abilities of the base creature. It gains those listed below, and also gains the undead type. Fast Healing (Ex): A psionic vampire heals 5 points of damage each round so long as it has at least one hit point. If dropped to 0 hit points or lower, the psionic vampire collapses, apparently dead. In one hour it will reanimate if still intact (see killing a psionic vampire below) and begin healing from 1 hit point. Damage Reduction (Su): A psionic vampires body is tough, giving damage reduction 15/+1. Resistance (Ex): A psionic vampire has cold resistance 10. Turn Resistance (Ex): A vampire has +4 turn resistance. Saves: Same as base creature. Abilities: Increase from the base creature as follows: Str +6, Dex +4, Int +2, Wis+2, Cha+4. As undead creatures, psionic vampires have no Constitution score. Skills: Psionic vampires receive a +8 racial bonus to Bluff, Hide, Listen, Move Silently, Search, Sense Motive, and Spot checks. Otherwise they are the same as the base creature. Feats: Psionic vampires gain Alertness, Combat Reflexes, Improved Initiative, Lightning Reflexes, and Psionic Focus (Telepathy), assuming the base creature meets the prerequisites and doesnt already have these feats. Climate/Terrain: Any land or underground Organization: Solitary or pack (2-5) Challenge Rating: Same as the base creature +1 Treasure: Standard Alignment: Often chaotic evil Advancement: By character class Psionic Vampire Weaknesses Unlike the standard vampire, psionic vampires have few weaknesses. Sunlight does not kill them only sends them into a comatose state indistinguishable from death. If reduced to 0 hit points they also retreat to this death like state. Only the destruction of the body will slay the creature. This can be accomplished by fire or magic. Beheading will also instantly kill a psionic vampire. Running water, garlic, mirrors and holy symbols have no special power over these creatures. Psionic Vampire Characters Psionic vampires are almost always evil and often driven to insanity due to loneliness and time. It is conceivable for a psionic vampire to maintain a good alignment but the constant need to feed on humanoid blood will take its toll in the long run. There are no special penalties for being a psionic vampire. Sample Vampires GMs Commentary: I wanted vampires who are little less deadly, a little more cunning, and who laugh at the myths of superstitious peasants. |
