part one

She had been given permission to make war upon the Sabbat; a way to prove her loyalty to the Prince. Unknown to Malcolm, it was also a way to get revenge upon Enrique for the death of Aleese, her friend and ally for more than eight centuries. She grinned as she thought of all the ways she could exact that revenge.

Suneyva drove quickly to the Zoo in this early morning though, there was nothing more she could do before the sun rose. She would not even have time to greet her Childer. The war and her revenge would have to wait one more day.

/The dirt she covered herself in was fresh smelling and cool against her skin. It felt like home. Suneyva rolled over and looked up at the little points of light that shimmered in their place amoung the gods. She could almost imagine that Odin himself was looking down at them and blessing this battle for the most precious land.

Beside her there was a small mutter of discomfort. "It is too cold out here. Can't we got back to the house yet? They will never leave the building now, it is too close to dawn."

Suneyva snickered at the young Tzimisce woman. "No wonder your clan needs the help of the Gangrel in this battle. You have grown too comfortable in the position of power and connot even take a little chill. Come to Norway with me Aleese and I will show you how to live in real comfort." She grinned up at the noblewoman.

"Comfort? I don't like your comfort. Fur and dirt do not suit me as well as silks and a warm hearth. Visit my voivode's domain and I will show you how to live in style. He would enjoy your company and you could share tales of battle." Aleese drifted off in thought for a few moments.

"How can you give him so much of yourself? He sends you out here alone of your clan with a barbaric Gangrel while he sits in comfort far off from the battle. How can you respect that?" Suneyva grimaced slightly. She knew what she would think if any of the Valkyrie were capable of such a cowardly thing.

"He is my Sire and I will respect his strength. You forget also that we Tzimisce are sorcerers. If Tremere had not diablerized a Tzimisce the clan would not exist, the entire clan is younger than you are! We fight this battle because it must be done. I fight here with you and my voivode fights with his will and his sorcery far away where they might not reach him as easily. We are all doing our part in this." She sat up a little and looked over the ridge that hid them from view. "The guards are leaving, this is our chance. The archives should be empty for a few hours and we will find our information." She stood carefully and ducked into the shadow of two great trees as Suneyva watched in silence./

As soon as she woke the next evening there was work to be done. Suneyva knew that the others would not wake for a while yet so she went directly to the armory to begin planning. She sorted the weaponry into three piles to begin with; guns, swords, and stakes. There would be time late to choose weapons, but she hoped that Julianna would agree to wield the flamethrower once more.

All she asked for herself was a chance at Enrique. She would fight him, immobilize him, and then take her revenge from him in a most appropriate manner. His Church would fall and she would take his scythe to present to DeLarch.

Julianna found her a short time later in the library. She hunched over the old texts; studying the stories of the past and contacts with the Lasombra. This would give her a few more keys to unlock Enrique's power.

"You haven't even said hello yet, so I am assuming that there is work to do?" Julianna strode forward and picked up one of the ancient handwritten volumes. "Hmmm. Interesting. Roman history? And this has to do with what?"

Suneyva shook her head slowly and looked up. "You don't remember what I taught you? The Lasombra controlled Rome after they took it from the Toreador. It was the Lasombra that turned it into a seat of power long ago. I want to review everything about this clan if I am to battle them." She looked thoughtful for a moment. "I wonder if they want Gothik because of DeLarch. He was one of the few to escape their influence and they do not take insults like that casually. Suneyva shrugged and took the book back from Julianna.

"So we are fighting the Sabbat then? And we will all join in the battle this time? Paul will not be asked to sit out will he?" Julianna sat next to her Sire and looked into the Norsewoman's eyes.

"Jesse and Paul are away at the cabin. Jesse is finally working on the outdoor training that Paul needs so badly. They will not know of this battle until they get back in a few weeks. I don't want either of them to be involved." She touched the side of her Childe's face. "We both know that they are of the Gangrel, but we also know that they are still weak. They deserve to have more time together. I would hate to lose either of them and we don't need them in this. I am not even asking Tristan to join us in this fight. Fiona needs him more than we do and this is my fight. I would do well with you at my side."

Suneyva smiled slightly, "Besides, we already have an unfair advantage. Enrique is an obsessive compulsive mess and we have two packs of Garou on our side. I talked to Magnus, leader of the Get of Fenris pack, and Jakob, of the Children of Gaia. Both will fight with us against the Sabbat. There is not much to worry about. We need only to uphold the Masquerade and let no mortal know of this battle."

Julianna frowned, "And we shall go to war?" She did not fancy losing her life or losing Suneyva in this search for revenge.

"Oh, the battle won't start for a while. First there is the research and practise. Then we must see what we can do to harm them without a physical fight. I didn't spend time amoung the Gypsies and Ravnos and not learn how battles can be won with paper and rumor. I want to get Enrique, but I will not give myself up to the fight. Jesse and Paul won't be back for weeks, we have time to draw this out as however long we need to ensure our victory. I will settle for nothing less than that."

/The Tremere was so careful with their information it wasn't too hard to imagine why they were strong. Suneyva knelt next to one of the tall bookshelves and leafed through a file. She sorted the pages of loose paper carefully; taking out whatever seemed useful. Aleese was looking through old grimoires a little further down the aisle and they both kept careful track of the other. Neither would be happy is someone happened to find them.

"The Order of Hermes should see some of this stuff. They would detatch themselves from the Tremere in a heartbeat I'm sure." Suneyva closed the file carfully and set it back into its place. The papers she had gathered went straight into her carry case without another glance.

"If the Order of Hermes wasn't already mostly Tremere I believe they would, but I doubt the order exists as it once did. We can use this information for other purposes though and it will make my voivode very happy with me. He might even give me back one of my Ghouls." Aleese lifted the huge volume back onto the shelf and they both started for the door. They had almost reached it when the latch clicked softly.

Gangrel and Tzimisce dove for the shadows of the small archive. If they got caught here the Tremere would have a party with their entrails. Not something that either of them wanted to contemplate. The door opened and shut quickly, and a single set of footsteps passed through the entrance. Suneyva looked up and saw a male Kindred and jerked further back into the darkness.

He paused between the bookshelves though and turned back towards the entry. "Hmmm. I think I sense someone else here. Now who would that be? Could it be a little Tzimisce rat? Come out Fiend, I know that you are in here. There will be no escape for you...or your Animal friend." He laughed. "The sun has just risen and none of us shall leave this building until tonight, neither of you will leave alive."/

Suneyva held Julianna tightly as they talked. "We had the same passion Jesse and Paul have now, but I don't think that either of us was ever as delicate. I'm glad that Jesse has found someone to take care of him; I only worry that Paul will need the same. One day he will realize how much hurt he holds within and Jesse had better be strong enough to help him through it or both will be lost. We have the same in that. I have you; you have me."

Julianna snuggled a little closer. "Romance is wasted on the young. Let's go out and do something? Maybe go to a club? We can scout while we're there and pick up information if we see Olivia."

"Okay, but I'm wearing lots of leather and flirting with everyone I see." Suneyva laughed lightly. "I haven't flirted in a very long time."

It was near midnight when they finally made it to Illusions, but this club never seemed to close; it was the reason it was so popular with the young gay men. The late hours and special back rooms were odd in this day when so many feared the spread of AIDS. It gave the young a taste of what living without the threat of disease was like.

Illusions was a dance club; loud and crowded, but there was one table perched above on a small balcony. It was Suneyva's table and was always reserved for the Gangrel and her Childer. Tonight there was someone sitting there, and they didn't look at all familiar. Suneyva went straight to the back of the bar to get a better view. Julianna craned her neck to follow her Sire's gaze, but couldn't see anything too unusual.

The man at the table looked like almost any Garou or Gangrel might. He seemed stocky and well muscled, though a bit fuzzy. Julianna saw that there was thick fur growing out of his ears and that his hands were taloned like a plains cat. She almost giggled, but he looked down at them and flashed a dangerous grin and her breath caught in her throat instead.

Suneyva wasn't intimidated by his set of fangs, she merely took Julianna's hand and they went up to the elevated stage. "You are sitting at my table. Is there a reason, stranger?" She sat across from him calmly, smoothing her leather pleats.

"Yes, in fact there is. Olivia mentioned that you could use my help against Enrique. You see, I am part of his coterie; for the time being anyway. I want to help you kill him." The man paused and looked towards the dance floor.

Suneyva's heart jumped a little. Did she dare trust a Sabbat? "Oh? And why is that? I thought that the Sabbat usually stuck together."

"I'm not Sabbat anymore. Enrique just doesn't know that yet. I started out as Gangrel, and I don't plan on staying with a bunch of chemical peels like the Sabbat any longer. The rest of the coterie is with me. Enrique has gotten a little too dangerous to follow. He's nuttier than a Malkavian on the night of the full moon. We want to get away from him, but the only way the Sabbat will let us do that is if we had a trial to prove he was incompetant. We can't do that cause he's got too many allies high up."

He snorted, "The Regent herself likes him and he's got plans to become the Archbishop of Gothik. I know that you don't want to see that happen to the pretty little city, and the coterie would rather get back to a civilized country like Mexico. So if you'll kill him we'll let you into the Haven and not interfere between you and the Alpha. Want to work with us?"

Suneyva smiled. She sensed no deceptions, and after all with her two packs of Garou as back-up she could probably take care of the whole coterie if this was a set up. "Okay, we'll deal on this. I kill Enrique and escort the rest of you out of the city. If you're nice I'll even talk to the Garou and get safe passage for the lot of you. Sound good?"

The Anarch nodded slowly, "Sounds real good." He stood, "I'll be in touch," and disappeared.
