Work went well enough today, not much to say about anything there really.
We had lunch from Nader's today. I love their rice and pita bread. I ordered a piece of baklava, wanting to compare their version to my own, and it was terrible. Mine is way better. One would think that something purchased from a place where the people claim the food to be 'authentic' would actually make it right.
When I make baklava, I layer half a pack of phyllo in my pan and brush each layer with butter. Then I put a mixture of chopped nuts, sugar, cinnamon, ground cloves in the middle. Then I cover the rest with more buttered layers of phyllo. Then I cut the whole thing into diamond shapes and put a clove in the center of each diamond. I bake it until it starts to turn brown. Then I pour a cooked mixture of sugar, water, honey, lemon juice, lemon zest, cloves and cinnamon sticks over the entire thing (though I pick the last three ingredients out before pouring). It bubbles all up and looks neat when the liquid hits it. It's awesome. So far, everyone has said that my recipe is the best they've ever had. I read several recipes and then figured out my own. I don't even measure stuff when I make it.
I'm not sure what I want to do tonight. I would like to read, but my book hasn't arrived in the mail yet. It's not supposed to get here until next week, so I guess I'll have to suffer a few days longer. I have over a thousand books and there's nothing to read. Pretty sad.
