Season 7 - Episode 20 - Fear of Commitment
Fear of Committment
(aka Dave actually gets some screentime, aka The one with the
'beater' -
swoon)
Okay, I have to say this first.....normally I would have been all
'How dare
Jing-Mei be so mean to my poor Dave....
but when I finally got a chance to watch this episode the first
time round ,
I'd just spent the day having shit loads of work dumped on me by
several of
my colleagues (including my bosses). I had a headache, I
was trying to train in a
newbie....and let me tell you, I was cheering her on in this
scene.....
Having said that....and yes, here comes my defence of Dave,
surely if an
elderly woman requests a different doctor to perform a 'delicate'
procedure,
then the original doctor is entitled to offload the chart onto
someone else?
(like Peter did in 'A hero falls'....sorry, I mean, 'Flight of Fancy' aka
the one where the promos were misleading....oh, I'm sorry, by all
accounts
that was pretty near every episode....)
but anyway, granted we don't know whether Faye had a problem with
Doctors...male doctors....or just Dave....and Jing-Mei probably
thought Dave
was crying wolf anyway. I would have been interested to see
a 'reaction
shot' of her when Dave came screaming out the door....just to see
if there
was even a twinge of guilt on her face.....more likely though
it'd be 'wow,
he really was telling the truth.' expression.
And by the way, when performing a rectal on a female
patient, wouldn't it
have been a good idea to have a female nurse present?
Oh man, I *loved* the look on Dave's face when Carter showed him
the lab
coat....and yeah, my pause button is nearly worn out from that
short
scene....hmm, Dave in a vest.....drool.....(crap...there goes
another keyboard)
Nope, I don't care what Carter says, Dave looks more like a
doctor in scrubs
than a lab coat.
Um, why is Maggie's attourney saying that Abby feels Maggie's
release would
cramp her social life? I mean, I don't recall hearing
anything about
releasing Maggie into Abby's custody? And surely nobody
could force Abby to
accept responsibility for her.
(actually, having seen the psych ward, I think it's a sign of
Maggie's
complete sanity that she wants to get out of there)
I was waiting for Kerry to start to ask Yosh how *he* knew about
furries....
Maggie claims that she took some pills and when they didn't work....she
took
some more.....but the only opportunity she had to take the pills
was the few
minutes she was in the toilet.....so why didn't the opposing
attourney pick
up on the fact that she'd practically have had to be swallowing
them
non-stop in order to have swallowed 36 pills in such a short time.
When Faye is telling Kerry that they had to put clothes on the
chimp to
cover up his sores....you can see the look of disillusionment on
Kerry's face.
And so, midway through the episode we have what I'm starting to
call a
YAMI....short for Yet Another Musical Interlude.....hello writers....if
I'd
wanted an episode of Ally McBeal I'd have taped it instead of ER.....
Now I don't mind *some* background music in an episode.....but
this is just
getting too much....if they're not careful they're going to end
up like
Baywatch with a full music video in the middle of each episode.....of
course
I always figured that Baywatch did it cause they never had enough
script to
pad out an episode otherwise....but why the hell does ER have to
do it?
How did Dave know it was Cantonese rather than Mandarin or one of
the many
other Chinese dialects?
I loved the shocked tone of Kerry's voice when she finally found
'Mr
Whiskers' doing something he 'shouldn't be doing' <g>
I also loved the way the possum turned the puppet around and
squeaked in
reply to her <g>
question....how does a guy in an overgrown possum suit manage to
unobtrusively steal a puppet from the admit desk?
Okay, you're a guy whose work as a surgeon is one of the most
important
things in your life....second only to your son.....to be a
surgeon you need
to have your hands in perfect working order.....so, after you
sustain an
injury to your wrist, you immediately get an x-ray, CT,
orthopedic
consultant, the works, all to ensure that whatever damage is
done, heals up
immediately?
nah, if you're Peter Benton you just operate anyway....ignore the
pain....risk your patients health and possibly risk aggravating
your
injury......
Having Peter ignore his wrist injury would have been dumb enough
anyway even
if we hadn't heard his speech about how important his work is too
him (cause
we already knew its importance)....but having him tell Mr Ferris
how much
his work and his son mean to him, just highlighted his stupidity
in not
getting treatment immediately.
Maggies timing really sucks, doesn't it <g>
Awww, poor Kerry.....I know, I know, she doesn't deserve anything
from Kim
after the way she let her down a few episodes ago....but was a
simple
'thank-you' for the food too much to ask?
