Season 7 - Episode 5 - Flight of Fancy
Peter really doesn't like Dave much <g>
Dave: 'This is a teaching hospital.'
Peter: 'Well go find another patient to learn on.'
(and yeah, I know he's gonna like him even less next week
<g>)
Most of the other reviews I read of this episode commented on how
wrong it was of Romano to put Peter in charge of the ER when he
wasn't experienced in ER management. Well correct me if I'm
wrong, but wasn't it Mark who left
Peter in charge? Okay, he was expecting Luka to show up
.....but he was still the one who left an inexperienced person in
charge of the ER. Romano <did> assign Peter to work in the
ER when he had little recent experience of 'primary care' (think
that was the phrase used) but there were supposed to be two other
attendings (Mark and Luka) - who
have both managed the ER in the past - in charge of him.
Actually, I was wondering if Romano was hoping that Peter would
be so out of his depth that he'd have to ask Luka for assistance
- I'm sure that Romano knows all about PPeter and Luka's dispute
in 'Mayday' and throwing the two together like that would be his
idea of fun.
Luka was so insistent that the dead mugger be identified....it
made me wonder if he ever found the bodies of his wife and
children.....if he lies awake wondering if they were buried
unidentified in an unmarked grave somewhere....and if that was
one of the reasons he was roaming the streets of Chicago trying
to find out who the guy was.
Okay, just a quick addition in here that I know I was wrong about that.
Somebody please wipe that smug grin off Carter's face using
any means necessary. You would think that by now, Carter
would have perfected a 'neutral' or 'serious' expression for use
when delivering bad news....but
then, he wasn't the one who should have told Trent that he was
HIV positive.
Someone once commented on the 'patient trends in the ER....how
Jing-Mei/Carol got all the 'pregnant' cases, Luka got all the
ones who were going to die....I've noticed another one....Carter
seems to get all the kids
who were raised by/living with their grandparents (okay, 2 in 3
episodes isn't really a trend...<g>)
Okay, so the paramedics want to take the heart guy to a hospital
5 mins away....but Mark overrules them to take him to County
which is 20 mins away....just cause that's where the guys
girlfriend is....umm, how long would it have taken her to get to
the other hospital? Probably not as much time as they spent
trying to repair the damage done by the longer journey.
Okay Peter, you've had a crappy day, but that's no reason to take
it out on an old lady. Okay, she's prejudiced (and no I'm
not going to get into an argument about whether or not her
prejudice is more or less acceptable because of her age/colour/sex/religion
etc etc). The point is, she was a patient and in pain....that's
what mattered. Would it have killed Peter to explain
politely that if she really wanted a 'white' doctor, that she
might have to wait another 3 hours and then ask her if she was
sure she wanted to wait?
Cleo and Peter....I'm sure that Cleo knew perfectly well that if
Reese hadn't been in the picture, Peter would have been on the
next flight to Philidelphia (it was Philidelphia, right?)
That was the point she was trying to get across to Peter....he
wasn't taking her feelings into account at all.
The comment she made to him at Doc's, when Peter asks if he can
sit down....'It's a counter, you can sit where you like'.
All I could think of when she said it, was the Quantum Leap
episode where Sam leaps into the body of a
'coloured' man and gets in big trouble for sitting down at a
counter.
(it probably wasn't intended as anything other than a throwaway
remark, but I was interested at Cleo 'racial crusader' Finch,
using those words - okay, it was late and my mind was wandering)
Anyway, Luka's hotel....wow....I was expecting some crappy rat
infested motel...not the place we saw....
Was it just me or did anyone else think that last Luka/Abby scene
went on too long....nothing against the scene....but it just
seemed like they were trying to fill in time. I mean, we
knew damm well she wasn't going to just hug him and then leave.(although
I'm sure there are people who wish she had
<g>)
anyway, just my few thoughts on it.
(oh, and I was surprised that Dave actually had lines in this
episode....wasn't expecting to hear him open his mouth)
Of course we all know that the 'heart condition' patient plot was
only
put in to highlight to Elizabeth
how unnecessary it was to have a big wedding.....especially when
your fiance
is at deaths door......hehehehehe....deliberate foreshadowing????
