| Saturday March 16th 2002 I was going to start making links out of my favourites list for more information on the net, but as soon as I started with authors I changed my mind. The only ideal place to link to is Amazon, and their URLs get ridiculously long with all that cgi garbage. It wouldn't be so bad if this editor didn't force me to type in the address instead of just pasting it (!!!!). Maybe I'll feel up to the challenge some other time. I'm in the mood to mix some music. I used to do that a lot; I have a 25 tape collection of dance music that basically spans 1990 to 1995 or so (with a slant towards my own personal tastes at the time, of course). Some tapes I mix and then tape over again in no time, others I hang on to forever, those among them - even if I don't understand what I saw in some of that music anymore. Today I was contemplating making a tape of music I feel confident I can sing to. Note: I do not do this in public. There are no benefit concert appearances in my future, thank you. Singing is something I do in the shower, when I'm alone in the car, etc. Otherwise you settle for my whistling or very annoying humming - friends will attest. I give myself a 10 for knowing the notes, about an 8 for hitting them provided they're not too high, but only about a 5 or 6 for the sound of my voice itself. So I'll never be a singer, but I could probably produce some cool music if I had a synthesizer program or something. That would be most awesome, and it's something I'd like to try sometime for sure. My brother-in-law has the software and does some good stuff himself, but he obtained it by - well, means that I feel somewhat inhibited about using myself. Kareoke is something I'm tempted to try, but never found the guts. For one, if I made that tape there would hardly be single damn song on it you've ever heard of; it's just quirky stuff that appeals to me and has a fun bounce to it. For instance: 'Ruby Lane' by Milla; 'Try Me On' by Dee-Lite; 'Under My Skin' by Neneh Cherry (see, I'm drawing complete blanks on you). The only ones you've probably heard of are 'Together Again' by Janet Jackson and maybe 'Deeper Love', which I think was originally done by Aretha Franklin. Those would definitely be on it. I think I'd also be obligated to include some non-singing stuff that I catch myself humming all the time; I absolutely cannot get the theme to '1492' out of my head, and the movie's been out for going on 10 years now. So, will I keep this tape or tape over it? I'll let you know... |
