THE CDC EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT & TEACHER TRAINING DEPARTMENT The CDC Educational Development and Teacher Training Team is currently working with the Egyptian Ministry of Education, several publishers as well as a number of AID projects on designing and delivering educational management and teaching methodology training. Projects include: TEACHING ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE (TEFL) TRAINING: - Designing and delivering training workshops on teaching the Ministry of Education English Language Curriculum Textbooks: Hello 1 - 7. Workshops are being conducted since 1995 to date for the English Language Teachers and Supervisors in the Governorates of Cairo, Giza, Aswan, Minya, Quena, Assiut, Sohag, Port Said and Zagazig on behalf of Sphinx Publishers. - Designing and delivering training workshops entitled Activities Beyond the Textbook for English Language Teachers in Private Language Schools, on behalf of Sphinx Publishers, March, 1999. - Designing and conducting workshops for the English Language Teachers of St. Clare's Language Schools, Summer, 1998 - Training the newly hired English Language Teachers of the IGCSE Department of Thebes Language Schools, Summer 1998. - Designing and conducting workshops in the CDC TEFL Diploma offered twice a year annually since 1993. - Designing and conducting training courses for the Ministry of Education teachers and Inspectors in Cairo, Sohag, Assiut, Quena, Aswan, Zagazig, Portsaid since 1995. - Designing and delivering "Training of Trainers" courses for the Ministry of Education Inspectors and Supervisors in Cairo, Sohag, Assiut, and Aswan in 1997 and 1998. ENGLISH FOR SPECIAL PURPOSES (ESP): - Coordinating the CDC/University of California, Santa Cruz Training Program entitled: ESP Course Design and Material Development for Trainers Program conducted on behalf of IELP II and held in Cairo and Santa Cruz for seven weeks from June to 17 August, 2000. - Designing and delivering a training program consisting of two five-day workshops for the Ministry of Education Head Teachers and Supervisors on Evaluating the ESP Textbooks. February, 1999 ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES: - Establishing and managing the English Language Institute (ELI) of Misr International University, 1997 - 1999. TEFL CURRICULUM DESIGN: - Designing the English language curriculum of the English Language Institute of Misr International University. - Designing the English language curriculum of Nefertari Language Schools. ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION: - Designing the assessment and evaluation scheme, analyzing the data and reporting on results of the one week training program for LearnLink delivered three times in Beheira, Beni Suef and Minya. The training program entitled Supervisory and Teacher Training Skills was designed for Ministry of Education Supervisors of the One Classroom Schools, November- December, 1998. - Designing the Test of Proficiency in English (TOPE) for the placement of students in Misr International University. - Designing the Portfolio Assessment Scheme for the ELI students of Misr International University. ONE-CLASSROOM SCHOOLS: - Designing, Evaluating and Coordinating all training activities of Learn Link, Egypt, a USAID Project focusing on Girls Education, One-Classroom Schools, an ongoing consultancy. - Designing and delivering workshops on Multiple Intelligences Theory for the One-Classroom and Community School Teachers on behalf of FIT, January & February, 2000. - Designing and delivering a one week training program for LearnLink delivered three times in Beheira, Beni Suef and Minya. The training program entitled Supervisory and Teacher Training Skills was designed for Ministry of Education Supervisors of the One Classroom Schools, November - December, 1998. - Designing and delivering a one week training program for FIT delivered three times in Quena, Souhag and Assiut. The training program was entitled Multigrade Teaching in the EFL classroom and was designed for Ministry of Education Teachers of the One Classroom Schools, August, 1998. - Designing and conducting a teacher training course for the teachers of the one-classroom school and the community UNICEF schools in Quena, Sohag and Assiut for the Foundation for International Training in 1998. EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY: - Developing a database (on behalf of FIT) for the teachers of the One-Classroom and Community Schools in the Ministry of Education and training Supervisors to use the database. - Designing and delivering a training workshop via video conferencing to Ministry of Education teachers and Supervisors on the use of the Grammar CD ROM Encyclopaedia and stories recently introduced in the Ministry of Education Schools. The training workshop was conducted for Sphinx Publishers in November, 1998. - Training TEFL teachers to use Power Point and use CD ROMs and Websites in presenting classroom activities. - Filming a 30 minute teacher training video on behalf of Longman Publishers, Egypt to accompany the textbooks entitled Hello! 1 & 2. The video portrayed listening, speaking, reading and writing activities, setting up games as well as vocabulary practice. - Designing a 30-minute scripted video tape to illustrate supervisory and feedback techniques to accompany a one week training program designed and delivered on behalf of LearnLink. The program was entitled Supervisory and Teacher Training Skills delivered three times in Beheira, Beni Suef and Minya. The training program was designed for the Ministry of Education Supervisors of the One Classroom Schools during November - December, 1998. TEACHER TRAINING; - Training the Science, Mathematics, History, Geography and Arabic teachers of the Egyptian Language School in Teaching Methodology and Developing Classroom Activities, August, 2000. - Training the Science, Mathematics, History, Geography, Arabic and French teachers of the Modern Education Schools in Teaching Methodology and Developing Classroom Activities, August, 1997. - Training the Kindergarten teachers of Modern Education Schools in Multiple Intelligences Theory, Lesson Planning, Writing Objectives and Classroom Management and Discipline, 1995. - Training the Maths and Science Teachers of A10rouba Language Schools in Teaching Methodology, 1995. SCHOOL MANAGEMENT TRAINING; - Training the Administrators of the Egyptian Language Schools (ELS) in Supervisory and Transformational Leadership Skills, August, 2000. - Training the Teachers and Administrators of St. Georges Language Schools in the requirements of ISO 9001 Quality Assurance Standards in Nefertari Language Schools, 1999. - Training the Supervisors of the One Classroom Schools in Management and Supervisory Skills, March - April, 2000. Repeated three times in Sirs A1 Layan. - Installing a Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001 Quality Assurance Standards in Nefertari Language Schools, 1998.
