Susan Mitchell has practiced Reiki for twenty-four years. She was first trained in Reiki in 1978 by Hawayo Takata, the woman who brought Reiki from Japan to the west. Susan began teaching Reiki in 1985 and was trained by Mrs. Takata's granddaughter, Phyllis Furumoto. Susan is a founding member of The Reiki Alliance, an international organization of Reiki Masters from forty-three countries and was its director until 1998.

Susan has a B.A. in Theology and Psychology from the University of San Francisco and a teaching degree from the University of California, Berkeley. She has taught at the preschool, elementary and junior college levels and was a child care center consultant. Susan teaches Reiki throughout the Northwest and recently co-founded Reiki Healing Arts with Barbara McDaniel in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. She is editor of The Reiki Alliance Newsletter and assistant editor of Reiki Magazine International.
