Barbara McDaniel has practiced the Usui System of Reiki Healing for eighteen years. She was initiated as a Reiki Master in 1988 following a two-year apprenticeship with Phyllis Furumoto, Grand Master of the Usui System and granddaughter of the woman who brought Reiki from Japan. She was a co-founder of the Seattle Reiki/AIDS project in 1986, providing Reiki treatment for people with HIV and AIDS, and co-created Finding Your Heart workshops, offering Reiki training for persons living with HIV and their care givers. She practiced at the Reiki Healing Arts Center in Seattle for seven years, and teaches Reiki at the Brenneke School of Massage in Seattle and in communities throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Barbara continues her professional training through the international Reiki Alliance and with Phyllis Furumoto and other Reiki professionals. Trained in music and theater at Wesleyan College, she has studied energy and healing with Findhorn Fellows Joy Drake and Kathy Tyler of Innerlinks, the Center for Attitudinal Healing, Seeds of Singing with Susan Osborne, and Thubten Chodron of Dharma Friendship Foundation among others. Barbara currently practices at Reiki Healing Arts in Coeur d' Alene and is the Managing Editor of Reiki Magazine International.
