| Zone lurkers be they residential, touristical, outer spacial, vacational, or accidental can always find, if nothing else, a daily procession that runs continuously up and down the main street of town. Often enough, parade spectators will catch a glimpse of a singular female visage who usually appears on the boulevard astride an other-worldly bicycle. This bike, constructed of materials familiar to rocket scientists and weighing about as much as a cellphone- and likely worth alot more than any car I've recently owned is piloted by Suzy, who wears skimpy skin-tight neon colored miracle plastic clothing and zips by before anybody can get a good look at her.
Suzy is all the time busy, striving her butt off, becoming more of a champion - it's her job. Everyplace should have at least one champ among the ordinary folk to foster community esprit de corps- to give the locals some one to root for, and to provide the youngsters with a living example of the opposite of sloth- something the kids see all too much of hereabouts. Suzy does things every day that only a few people in the entire world can do and she has chosen the B*zone as homebase where she refines her endeavor to become through ceaseless effort the world's best example of single-minded determination. Though not Boriqua, she carries the flag of the island throughout the world representing Puerto Rico in international triathlon events. Suzy is the B*zones' own ultrawoman. Suzy's ascendance to this elevated plane is a story of courage and heroism rivaling the very best in the annals of personal triumph over physical and mental disability and has resulted in astounding feats of competitive performance. Not being much of a self-inflicted-torture-by-means-of-physical-exertion type person, I can only marvel at what must be involved in order to be placed in the competitive category of 'ultra'- which is exactly where those who know about such things have, on a world class level, designated Suzy. Suzy will swim across the bay a few times, pedal around it a few times, and run 20 miles before stopping for a break. People sitting around drinking beer and watching the parade on the avenue need this kind of inspirational input to keep things in perspective. As Suzy flashes by on her constant training regimen, about all anybody has time to say is, 'Did you see that?' Suzy makes us all remember how strong we used to feel when we were younger- and reminds us of the truth and wisdom of the old adage: ********Just get up off your flat ass and you can damn well do most anything.******** Suzys Ultras include: 1997 Triple Ironman (Fontanil, France) 1997 Half Ironman (Martinique) 1997 Nice Long Distance Championships (Nice, France) 1998/99/00/01/03 Ultraman Hawaii (Kona, Hawaii) 1999 Puerto Rican Triathlon Circuit - National Champion 2000/01 Double Ironman (Levis, Quebec) 2001/02 Double Ironman (Ecuador) 1992-04 P.R.
