04/16/02- Two down, twenty three to go. Dirk is doing well. He is checking his email so feel free to contact him. I am putting his email address on this page.
04/19/02- Five down, twenty to go! Dirk is home for the weekend! The week went surprisingly smooth for all of us. Dirk's only discomfort so far has been headaches on Thursday and Friday. He drove home from Iowa City, but we'll play next weekend by ear. He meets with Dr. Buatti on Monday, so I will update the site again Monday night.
04/23/02- Dirk made it back to Iowa City and spoke with Dr. Buatti yesterday. The appointment was pretty short. Everything is going as planned. Dirk needs to keep them posted as to any additional headaches, etc. He then had his treatment--19 to go!
04/24/02- Dirk called again tonight. Everything is still going well. I asked him for a update so I could update this site, and he really didn't have anything new to report. I take that as great news!
04/26/02- Dirk opted for a earlier appointment so will be home early today! 2 weeks down, only 3 to go!
04/29/02- Dirk met briefly with Dr. Buatti today (every Monday). There is really nothing new to report. He did ask when the first MRI would be after radiation is completed, and the doctor said it would be one month.
04/30/02- We are half-way done!! Dirk has had his appointments changed this week, so he is going in at 7 a.m. instead of 10:30 a.m. He will still have the 10:30 a.m. appointment on Monday. He says he still feels good.
05/03/02- Dirk was to have his treatment at 5:45 a.m., so I went ahead and updated the treatment count to 10! Only two more weeks! He is driving home today. He promised me lunch and to pick the girls from school. This will give our friends, the Sondgeroth's a day off from picking them up from school. We really appreciate all they have done for us. I received an email that the website will be down from 9 p.m. Friday until Sunday morning. I will update again on Monday night after Dirk talks to the doctor again.
05/06/02- Dirk met with Dr. Buatti and staff this afternoon. He was excited to hear that they felt that the side effects would not get significantly worse. He is experiencing some mild headaches, some minor fatigue, and some spotty hair loss. He feels good, and attributes this to his overall health and the many prayers that are being sent his way! Single digits from here on out!
05/07/02- Dirk is having a good week. There is really nothing new to report and that is a good thing!
05/11/02- As you can see, the count did not go down after Friday. UIHC was having some mechanical difficulties so Dirk was unable to get a treatment. We won't know until Monday if, or when they will make that treatment up. He is having some side-effects. He has had some hair loss at the spot where they are hitting with the most radiation. I will post another update after he is treated Monday and speaks with the doctor.
05/13/02- Dirk found out today that he can make up his missed treatment on either Wednesday or Thursday! He won't have to go back next week! He will have two treatments on one day. We are very excited that this is the last week. Keep those positive thoughts and prayers coming--they are working!
