The Charlie Company Association first began back in 1983 when former members of C Company, of the First Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (1 RAR) got together in Sydney for their first reunion since returning from the Vietnam War in 1966. Originally the Association was made up from members of the first tour of Vietnam by 1RAR from June 1965 to June 1966. During which time the First Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment was stationed at Bien Hoa and attached to the US Army's 173rd Airborne Brigade (Separate). Following the Welcome Home Parade for Vietnam Veterans in Sydney on the 3rd October 1987, members of the Second Tour of Vietnam who served from March 1968 to March 1969, began to join and become actively involved. In 1993 the First Battalion served in Somalia. Following their tour of duty some of those who served with C COY 1RAR joined the Association. In 2000 the First Battalion served on its tour of duty in East Timor, returning to Australia in April 2001. These plus current serving soldiers of C COY 1 RAR are now joining our ranks and we are very proud to have them with us. Membership of the Association is totally free, all that is necessary is that members have served in Charlie Company, of the First Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment. |
