The "Big Three" at Yalta
As the war in Europe drew to an end Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of England (left), Franklin D. Roosevelt, President of the United States (center) and Josef Stalin Communist Party Secretary (right) meet to discuss the political shape of Europe in the post-war era. The Yalta Conference (February 5-11, 1945) issued a series of findings and reports. Within two months F.D.R. would die in office to be succeeded by Harry S. Truman who would oversee the conclusion of the war. In the British elections held immediately after the war Churchill's party was voted out of office and Clement Attlee became the new Prime Minister of England. Thus of the heads-of-state that had over seen the operations of the war against Germany and Japan only Stalin retained power in the post-War Era.
