| Name: Mary McMonagle Husband: Steve McMonagle Town: Port Matilda, PA Children: Christopher, 13 We've been homeschooling for ... 6 years The best thing about homeschooling is ... I had a few "best things." One is being able to tailor the curriculum or learning environment for Christopher. I love to witness his expressions when "the light goes on." I am thankful for the opportunities we've had to meet such interesting caring people, especially other homeschoolers. One of Christopher's favorites is learning anytime and anywhere. The biggest challenge is ... combining our different learning styles. Sometimes I also have to work on balance. It is easy to get caught up with one thing, i.e., sports, a science project, etc., and neglect other areas of learning or daily chores. The best teaching tip I ever heard ... Don't worry about the academics at first. Instead, focus on discovering your teaching style and the learning style of your children. Next, find a routine that works for you family, even if it is a non-routine. The rest will follow. My favorite quick and nutritious dinner is ... a salad with taco seasoned meat, hamburger or chicken, and tortilla chips. My best household cleaning or organizational tip is ... everything has a place, everything in its place. We try to house all related materials in one resource area. This saves time and money when you don't purchase doubles. I regain my perspective and sense of humor by ... looking at the big picture. How does this event compare to God's plan for our lives. How will this be looked upon in 3 days, 6 months, or 10 years? Next Page |
